Hi there. Reference manager Mendeley was working fine in LO 5.1.2, but after updating to 5.1.3.2 there seems to work only partially: The plugin is working, I see the tool bar and the "Insert citation" option is available, but after selecting the reference the legend "Formatting citation" appears and does not goes further. It is supposed to load the reference in an specified format from my library. Uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin did not solve it, neither was resetting the user folder in LibreOffice. Any help is welcome. Thanks.
Any improvement if you delete/rename your user profile to work with a clean default profile? Also, what OS and Desktop Environment are your using? Any useful discussion on the Mendeley support site?
To V Stuart Foote from comment #1 > Any improvement if you delete/rename your user profile to work with a clean > default profile? No Sir, I tried with a new user profile twice, installing and reinstalling the plugin each time. Didn't work. > Also, what OS and Desktop Environment are your using? Ubuntu Linux 16.04 > Any useful discussion on the Mendeley support site? I checked and the most recent discussion was not really helpful. https://feedback.mendeley.com/forums/4941-general/suggestions/1226271-plugin-for-libre-office Most comments were about failing to install the plugin, which is not my case. It was perfectly working minutes before I updated to 5.1.3.2, furthermore, it worked with the first citation I made, 1min later it just didn't. Would you recommend to reinstall an older version of LibreOffice?

Sorry, I can't advise on best actions, nor test. Not a Mendeley user--rather Zotero and EndNote. But, you might remove both LibreOffice 5.1.3.2 and Mendeley 1.16.1 with package mamnager, back up your data ~/.local/share/data/Mendeley Ltd./Mendeley Desktop/ and then clear any residual profile ~/.libreoffice, and ~/.local/share/data/Mendeley Ltd. and then reinstall both as if clean new install. Check if they run--then restore the data and verify it is still OK.
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #3) >... > Ltd./Mendeley Desktop/ and then clear any residual profile ~/.libreoffice, > Sorry, the LibreOffice profile to clear (or rename) is in ~/.config/libreoffice
No problem. Mendeley was not causing the bug as it appeared only when I updated the LO package. So I went the easiest way: I unistalled LO, deleted it completely from my computer and reinstalled the previous version (5.1.2) and voila, the plugin and the reference manager are working as smooth as before. I guess it is better to wait a bit longer before upgrading LO. Thanks anyway.
Fixed by the user -> uninstall 5.1.3 and reinstalled 5.1.2
Actually that is not FIXED--it remains UNCONFIRMED. Or we could set INVALID. Its fine that you reverted your install to LO 5.1.2 final but that does nothing for the project or other Mendeley users. As we'll still need to know if there is a legitimate issue with Mendeley and LibreOffice 5.1.3 final (or beyond). As is you've left that to other users.
Ah! Ok, sorry, this is my second bug report and I don't know the technical terms/language to use. Reverting to a previous version is for now, the way it works for me and I cannot allow to wait for another solution (working on my thesis right now). There seems to be an issue with Mendeley and LibreOffice 5.1.3, but at least, a temporary trick is to downgrade the package. I'll be trying new releases later on (in some months) and get back with updates on this bug. Keep up the good work!
please tell if the issue is still reproducible with latest LibO 5.1.6.2 or 5.2.3.3 releases. status NEEDINFO until then
Hello tommy27. Without installing the latest version I already know the origin of this issue. After try and error, I realized that I was having this incompatibility problem only on files with text(s) copy-pasted from a .doc or .docx file. When such texts were pasted without format the issue was gone. My guess is that, since the text is "read" from top to bottom every time the references are updated, these sections from other file extensions gave some misreading mistakes. Thanks for keeping an eye on this bug. anyway the behaviour changed from 5.0.x , right? you could paste formatted text with no issue using the old version, isn't it?
(In reply to tommy27 from comment #13) > anyway the behaviour changed from 5.0.x , right? > you could paste formatted text with no issue using the old version, isn't it? I cannot be sure that the behavior changed when using a certain version. When I encountered this issue I was combining several documents in one, "that's something I don't usually do, but when I do, I find bugs" (apparently). Thus, I don't know if the problem is present in older versions and never noticed, sorry. However, something I noticed is that even when using libreoffice with a .doc file created in LO itself, the plugin of Mendeley pops up a warning message. I assume it's because the plugin was made to work on .odf files, nonetheless, it ends up working as well. Again, the problem starts when the text is copied from a .doc file made in or edited in a non-LO suite.
thanks for your feedback. edited summary notes. let's see if there is some other user who experienced the same issue. maybe it would be interesting to keep in touch with the Mendeley programmers.
