Description John Buczek 2016-08-27 00:23:02 UTC
An invalid setting for the Linux environmental variable TIME_STYLE such as "ISO-8601" causes all Libreoffice components to fail to start with no notice, warning or error message.

Starting LO in the terminal command line displays error "invalid time style".

FIX:

1. There should be an error message.

2. (option) LO should default to valid time style and start

Linux Mint 18
LO Version: 5.1.4.2
     Build ID: 1:5.1.4-0ubuntu1
     Locale: en-PH (en_PH.UTF-8)

I tried running LibreOffice from the terminal like this: "TIME_STYLE='ISO-8601' soffice"

This is what I got:
"ls: invalid argument 'ISO-8601' for 'time style'
Valid arguments are:
  - [posix-]full-iso
  - [posix-]long-iso
  - [posix-]iso
  - [posix-]locale
  - +FORMAT (e.g., +%H:%M) for a 'date'-style format
Try 'ls --help' for more information.
/usr/bin/soffice: 175: exec: /usr/bin/oosplash: not found"

It's an error, but not the "invalid time style" error you mentioned. How did you set the environmental variable?

LibreOffice 5.1.4.2 / Ubuntu 16.04
Comment 2 John Buczek 2016-09-04 22:43:45 UTC
I set it manually from the CLI. I was trying to affect the appearance of another app, not LO. The effect on LO was coincidental.
Comment 3 John Buczek 2016-09-04 22:46:43 UTC
Let me make that clear. I did it with the same command you did excluding "soffice".
