The spinning beachball after trying to open a document. I upgraded to the latest version of libreoffice 5.2.2, then downgraded to 5.1.4 hoping I could open a document

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.install macos sierra (latest os)
2. install libreoffice
3. open document (tried writer and calc)
Actual Results:  
spinning beachball (not responding) kill process. tried again to confirm

Expected Results:  
bug fixed, recompile libreoffice?

what other info do you need?

This happened on a mid-2011 i7 mini hardware. google says I'm not the only one having this issue
