In earlier versions clicking the formula toolbar SUM button activated a blue selection outline around the estimated cell range. In 5.3.0 (Alpha 1) this outline does not appear. See illustrations in attached Writer document.
On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this.
This seems to have begun at the below commit.

Henry Castro committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to "master":
tdf#103409: No selection outline displayed when SUM button is clicked
It will be available in 5.3.0.
The patch should be included in the daily builds available at
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/ in the next 24-48 hours. More
