I'm not sure what the concern is here. Do you want to be able to adjust the size of the text area (which indeed I cannot find how to do in the menus etc)? We are doing emulation and substitution all over the place with textboxes/shapes in order to get the layout right, so it doesn't come at all as a surprise that there are implementation differences.
