Created attachment 129368 [details] text selection handles When selecting text, handles appear which allow you to extend/shrink the selection. While this is a good idea on mobile devices, it is unnecessary and distracting on the desktop. Thus I suggest to remove the text selection handles.
Actually the more I use the Online, the more I miss the selection handles on the desktop ;-) It's extremely useful when you want to extend the selection at the start; not to mention that the Online is used on the mobile devices too... Of course we can consider changing the design of the handles themselves or something; but otherwise - I'd prefer not to remove them.
Any other opinions?

Which is not possible by keyboard navigation. Which I usually use - by the way. ;) Maybe only show when making selection by mouse.. Anyway, on mobile devices definitely important.

Another issue with the handles is that you cannot extend the selection downward starting from top or upward starting at bottom. For example, C3:E6 is selected and you shrink the selection beginning at C3 it ends at E6 and becomes F7 going beyond. Starting at E6 you shrink to C3 and then B2, or the like. Using the conventional cell style selection (of course only at the initial state) it expands from the end point into E6:G8 or A1:C3. Removing needsUX.
I guess making these handles optional (i.e. allowing the integrator to disable them) should be a good compromise. Please write a separate bug report for other improvements to the text selection handles.
