Description morvan 2017-01-26 14:45:51 UTC
Description:
We have an application that generates files with .rtf format, for interoperability between L. O. and Word; before installing L. O. at "CPLOG" division, there was a version of "BrOffice" (Discontinued now, in favor of LibreOffice) and documents imported from .rtf did this flawlessly, but, once trying to update Suite, problems started. With BrOffice, document, as in Word, renders 22 (Twenty-Two) pages; with L. O. 5.2.3.3, 42!
It seems related to RTF Filter, cause when I convert same document to .doc (Word 97-2003 Filter) imports are OK.
I did want to change (upgrade) to L. O. Personel at CPLOG wants to maintain BrOffice, even I say it is obsolete. From my point of view, there is a pointless solution, if it is. Trying to make what is better, not necessary what clents want as a solution.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open attached document in L. O.; There must be 22 pages, but there are 42;
2. Open same document in Word 2003. It really renders 22 pages.
3. Save document as .doc and it generates 22 pages in both apps.

Actual Results:
Different number of pages in such applications.

Expected Results:
Same pages quantity

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

RTF Document Generated by Corporative Application
Comment 2 Jacques Guilleron 2017-01-28 23:36:07 UTC
Hi morvan,

The issue in the document comes from using the font @Batang at the beginning of each paragraph, with or without tabulation.
If a font is not installed on a computer, applications try to replace it.
Into LibreOffice, this is showed by italic name of the font.
I found 31 pages with Word 2010, 42 with LibreOffice 5.2.3.3 under Windows 7 Home.

Replacing @batang 12 pts by Arial 8 pts allows to refind a similar pages number.
Do you confirm it?

Jacques

Hi. I tried this approach, but, even successful, it is not worth, cause programmer who made interface to application is not here, my work, anymore. We have not anybody to maintain software that generates this report in RTF. He had, I discovered, unhappy idea to use this font (may be just at his own machine); it is easy, besides to see font is italic, as you point, very well, to hover cursor at font combo and a message displays font is missing.
I am thinking about font substitution or incorporate font into report itself and then to export font to its own folder, rendering it available to all applications, including L. O.
Another circumvent was, if possible, to test L. O. with RTF BrOffice Filter. If there is a machine with BrOffice and it renders document nicely, I need see if it is a Filter problem or this machine, in particular, has @Bateng font embedded.

RTF saved as PDF from MSO 2013

MSOffice 2013 shows the same number of pages as LibreOffice. So from this perspective we can't call this a bug.. MSO 2003 is already beyond obsolete.

Hi, everyone and, course, Buovjaga. I need test this into versions of L.O. to know if, as allegatess my client, in some version it renders same pages number (in RTF) of MSO 2003; sorry. It is beyond just to see if it is, really, a bug. If I fiind some version of L. O. or even BrOffice rendering such (repeat, in RTF) as MS2003, I will search for a filter difference.

Hi. I resolved. I downloaded OpenOffice (I tried, at first, to download BrOffice 3.2.1, but I could not find it) and tested it aginst GNU-Linux version and Windows (both 4.1.3); it works perfectly.
I will install OO 4.1.3 concurrently in his machine (just Writer!) and will associate RTF to it.
In OO 4.1.3 and Word 2007 it shows 31 pages and, in booth, some blank pages. This is not, itself, a matter. I will setup Writer to do not print blank pages.
I really do not know what is the difference. A filter, for instance. But it works.
Bellow an image from report (same that I reported, initially). Detail shows end of page in each one (in LO Writer, EOP comes in next page).
