Description mike 2017-02-13 14:16:15 UTC
This showed up in the most recent update, 5.2.5.1. I have a large spreadsheet that I edit frequently. For a long time (years) I frequently do a "save as" to a different name as a backup in case I do something stupid. Since the last update, the original file doesn't show up in either the start center or in the "recent documents" menu. Even after opening the original, making changes, and saving, it does not show up. The "backup" version does show up in both the start center and the recent documents menu. Pretty weird.

Original file name: Accounts2017.ods
the "backup" name might be: Accounts20170213.ods

I find the same problem with another file which is treated the same way, except that its backup file is the same name but in a different folder.
That one is just called Daily.ods

Thanks,
Mike

So you are only seeing this with two files?
Would you like to try version 5.3?
Comment 2 mike 2017-02-20 20:29:03 UTC
No, it happens for many files. At first I thought it just always kept the "save as" file and not the original in the recent files list, but then I tired to do it backwards, editing the Accounts20170228.ods file and saving it as Accounts2017.ods, but that didn't change anything. Still only the longer name shows up in the recent files.
Today I tried clearing the recent file list, and it crashed LibreOffice. Then it wouldn't start up any more. I re-installed LibreOffice and it's back to where it was earlier today. Still not showing the correct recent files.

Maybe I'll try 5.3 if I get time later.

Thanks,

Mike

Please try resetting the user profile, sometimes solves strange issues.
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
Usually it's enough renaming/deleting the file "user/registrymodifications.xcu", it affects all the options in Menu/Tools/Options, and the files "user/basic/dialog.xlc" and "scrip.xlc" are overwritten, additionally custom colors in "user/config/standard.soc" are lost.

I couldn't reproduce bug in Version 5.2.1.2

I couldn't reproduce the bug in Version: 5.2.1.2.

Create a new file > Save it.
Create a new file > Save As.
Open a file that already exists > editi it> Save it
Open a file that already exists > editi it> Save As.
I've saved in the same folder and in another different folder.

All files are listed in the Recent Docs list, and in the start center. Please see attachment bug-105981-LO-5.2.1.2-works-fine.png

I couldn't reproduce the bug in Version: 5.3.0.3.

Create a new file > Save it.
Create a new file > Save As.
Open a file that already exists > editi it> Save it
Open a file that already exists > editi it> Save As.
File > Recent Documents > open a file > edit it > save in another folder

All files are listed in the Recent Docs list, and in the start center.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
Creating a new profile did the trick. It's back to working as expected.

Something in the upgrade must have corrupted the profile.

Thanks again,

Mike
