Description Linus 2017-03-15 10:01:17 UTC
Description:
In Windows 10, when you right click anywhere in free space in the Explorer or on your Desktop, a menu opens including the item "New". When you hover over it, it expands and allows you to create new file types. For LibreOffice, these are:

OpenDocument Drawing
OpenDocument Presentation
OpenDocument Spreadsheet
OpenDocument Text

For "Drawing" it works as expected; i.e. a proper new file named "New OpenDocument Drawing.odg" is created.

But for the other three (Presentation, Spreadsheet, Text), respective odp, ods or odt files are created, which however have a size of 0 KB. The result is that also the odp file is openned with the Writer. And the ods file is openned in Calc with an "import" dialog window. This "import" window pops up every time for this ods file, even after some data has been added.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right click anywhere on your Windows 10 Desktop
2. Select "New" from the appearing menu
3. Select e.g. "OpenDocument Spreadsheet"
4. Confirm the file name of the newly created file

Actual Results:
A file with 0 KB is created.

Expected Results:
An actual new odp, ods or odt should be created that like when I click new file and save within Impress, Calc or Writer.

Reproducible: Always

I can't confirm it with LO 5.3.1.2(x64) and Win 10.

Results:
Impress-File (8,7kb)
Calc-File (6,4kb)
Writer-File (7,2kb)
Draw-File (8,2kb)

I just updated from 5.2.5.1 to 5.2.6.2.
The issue is gone now! Thanks!

Let's use status WORKSFORME, then, since no fixing commit is known.
Comment 4 Linus 2017-03-17 11:34:26 UTC
I just did a "repair" of my Microsoft Office 2016 and now the described behaviour is back.

So it seems to be a collision of LibreOffice with MS Office 2016.

Will now reinstall LibreOffice again, which will probably fix it again; I fear only until the next MS Office update.

So if you want to reproduce the issue, I guess you have to install MS Office 2016 after installing LibreOffice.

Linus: I know that when I create a file with the explorer options put there by Microsoft Office, the file is 0 kB. Do you think it is actually MS Office creating the OpenDocument files? This would mean everything is going as expected.
Comment 6 Linus 2017-03-19 19:39:21 UTC
Buovjaga: This is a good point. It could very well be that MS Office is creating the new OpenDocuments files with 0KB. But MS Office is not set as the default program for openning OpenDocuments files. Is it possible that the new files are created by a different program than the default for openning them?

I think the mystery could be solved, if you uninstalled LibreOffice. If the explorer right-click still offers the OpenDocuments, then the creator is MS Office.

Linus: Could you solve the mystery? => Set to NEEDINFO

Uninstalling LibreOffice also remove the LibreOffice files from the right-click->New menue. I could try to "repair" my MS Office again and see if this reproduces the behaviour. But I would rather not at the moment where it all works again... :-) I might reopen this bug if the behaviour reoccurs.
