Open a new document in Writer. Insert a Math object and write command
left( a over b right)^2.
The bad scaling while editing stays, when leaving edit mode.

Confirmed. See the same incorrect height for OLE formula brackets (any of the glyphs) inline in Writer. Noted with both OpenGL and Default rendering.

On Windows 10 Pro 64-bit en-US with
Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+ (x64)

Already present in the 2017-01-03 build

So https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=range&q=1cb1cc30b5eb75483b6aaeec0192f7ee1d833461..215cbfb460326010737433c2020638e9388a88a4

And https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=1b7e788eb3bf9cbe56ed5cc4a3fa7fa5e70ac40a looks suspect. A proper bibisect should confirm.
