After opening the bullets/numbering dialog, it would then need to be closed and reopened if the current list needs a new character style associated with it, or the currently associated character style needs to be modified.

So i propose that an in the Customize tab of the dialog after the character style drop down list, 2 icon-based buttons be added for new and edit.
