Viewing - 2 irritating problems 1/ The blinking cursor won't stop blinking-well blinking. Yes, I have gone to the keyboard screen of Ubuntu's system settings and have switching the blinking off for gedit & most other stuff. It only insists on blinking in Libreoffice Writer, and it blinks at a speed I can't adjust. 2/ When using writer to proof-read / edit a document and I'm scrolling down then every so often the page jumps back to the page where I left that blinking cursor. (I imagine it jumps every time a copy is taken for back-up.) (PS my system is 64 bit but I can't remember for sure the chip type.)
We have one report that disabling blinking in system settings in Debian works ok: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100706#c9 Please give detailed version info of your Ubuntu and LibreOffice. Also copying & pasting the Help - About text (that can be copied). Set to NEEDINFO. Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the information.
ubuntu 16.04 LTS LibreOffice vrsn5.1.6.2 build id:1:5 Hope I managed to find the info you require. Thanks. Jon
Would you be willing to try version 5.3? Either from here: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa or more manually: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel/Linux
Hi Sorry for gaps between getting back to you, I only use Writer intermittently. I tried version 5.3.2.2 - it solved the cursor blinking problem, and seems to have solved the page jumps - HOWEVER I can't print with the new version, and I no longer have a spell-checker ... I notice that if I download Libreoffice from the Ubuntu software centre I get 2 (!) copies of Libreoffice listed as installed, plus one copy of Libreoffice Math, which I never asked for. By removing Libreoffice & Writer, and then re-installing Writer I end up with the 5.1 version which at least allows me to print. I can't help wondering if the downloading / installation process is screwing up.
You could try using the PPA and first purging the currently installed version. This tutorial covers all of that: http://www.askmetutorials.com/2017/02/install-uninstall-libreoffice-530-on.html Let's close this.
