The file illustrates the situation described in comment.

I use in the textarea of Notes Master a gradient filling from white to black with an angel of 45°. 
Only changing the angel has no effect! Activating/manipulating the second color (black) then it works! I save! I close the file. I close Impress.
I start Impress by opening the file. The angel of before 45° has a (wrong) value of 0°.
Obviously there is no saving (or reading?) of the angel in the file and obviously a change of only the angel in Notes Master-Menu has no effect.

The error happens, if using the sidebar: Create new presentation. Add some text into the placeholders. Switch to 'Notes Master'. Click the border of the Notes Area to select it. Open section Area in the sidebar and set the filling to "Gradient". You get a default set of colors and angle. Set the angle to 45° and change the start color. Close master view. Save document. Reload document. The gradient has changed to black/white 0°.
