In the german UI (navigator) you find the term "Bezüge". It is really unclear what it is, because you can't find any informations about "Bezüge" in LO help. I think the most adequate translation of "reference" in this case is "Referentext", because you only create "Bezüge" via Querverweise => Referenz setzen and if you select such a reference you have to choose Querverweise => Referenz einfügen => Referenztext.
Maybe relevant strings in Pootle: 5.3: https://translations.documentfoundation.org/de/translate/#search=Bez%C3%BCge&sfields=target&soptions=exact&offset=198&unit=119219240 and https://translations.documentfoundation.org/de/translate/#search=Bez%C3%BCge&sfields=target&soptions=exact&offset=198&unit=119221664 5.4 (master) https://translations.documentfoundation.org/de/translate/#search=Bez%C3%BCge&sfields=target&soptions=exact&offset=270&unit=28789792 and https://translations.documentfoundation.org/de/translate/#search=Bez%C3%BCge&sfields=target&soptions=exact&offset=270&unit=47985071 Not sure how to proceed.
"Bezüge" is only used in Calc as "absolute Bezüge" und "relative Bezüge" and describes how a cell address is written. In Writer it needs to be "Referenzen", because in the Fields dialog the associated commands are "Referenz setzen" und "Referenz einfügen". It might be useful to add an additional word, to explain, that it describes, that a portion of text inside the document is defined to be a target. It is not "Referenztext", because that means the text itself and might be confused with the same word in the lower part of the field dialog. In case "Referenzen" is not clear enough or not wanted, I suggest "Textreferenzen". It had been "Referenzen" in LO version 4 and I don't know why it was changed at all. The string has KeyID KuNe6.
Made the suggestion: "Referenzen (Bezug auf Text)" for 5.3 and master. Let's see... . Other suggestions welcome. :-)
I think Sophias suggestion is an improvement. I'd agree to Reginas suggestion of "Textreferenzen", if the reference dialog is also changed: "Referenz setzen" should be renamed to "Textreferenz setzen" and "Referenz einfügen" to "Textreferenz einfügen". This would specify the kind of reference and would make the connection to "Textreferenzen" in the navigator more clear.
I think, "Bezüge" has been changed in 5.3.3 to "Verweise" => should we close this bug? I suppose Christian can give an explanation, so I added him to the cc-list. Personally I think "Verweise" is an improvement, but with "Verweise" it is still not clear that only "Textverweise" as a certain kind of "Verweise" are collected in that part of the navigator. But I dont' know, if there is an easy way to solve this problem.
Right, on the basis of Sophia's suggestion I changed it into "Verweis" in Pootle, because it's that what it means, when you insert a "Querverweis" (see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Querverweis ). I now also changed "Referenz setzen/einfügen" into "Verweis setzen/einfügen" to have a uniform expression within LO.
