Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a document with image in LibreOffice Draw or Impress 
2. Right click on the image, select Edit with External Tool
3. Change image in the external tool (or since usually image viewer shows up in Kubuntu, edit in the GIMP)


Actual Results:  
Image either won't update or LibreOffice dies with an error that pointer is set to wrong location

Expected Results:
Image gets replaced.

Could you give a try to a recent LO version?
Indeed 5.1 branch is EOL and 5.2 will be soon.
FYI, last stable one is 5.3.2

Before the test, you must first rename your LO directory application (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#GNU.2FLinux)
