@Cor, @Stuart, @Regina: Any ideas why this is so and is there a means to add padding (space to content) inside of a textbox?
Only thing that comes to mind is top row of a Table object--you cant its above value. Is the top line of a text box similarly limited in VCL?
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #3) > Only thing that comes to mind is top row of a Table object--you cant its > above value. I was able to add above paragraph spacing in the first row of a table, or am i missing something?
This is ruled Tools > Options > Writer > Compatibility ..Ad paragraph and table spacing at top of pages. Changing that shows the spacing above of the paragraph both in a frame and on the page. Or do we want a separate setting for this :)
(In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #5) > This is ruled Tools > Options > Writer > Compatibility ..Ad paragraph and > table spacing at top of pages. > Changing that shows the spacing above of the paragraph both in a frame and > on the page. This issue is not about a frame, but about a text box. That is the shape, which you enter by the T symbol. The compatibility settings do not affect the text box. > Or do we want a separate setting for this :) Yes or somewhere else. The same problem exists for the classical text area in other shapes. In the new kind of "text box" in custom shapes (context menu -> Add Text Box) the spacing above paragraph is honored for the first line. (In reply to Yousuf Philips (jay) from comment #2) > @Cor, @Stuart, @Regina: Any ideas why this is so No. > and is there a means to add padding (space to content) inside of a textbox? The padding is set in Format > Text Box and Shape > Text Attributes > part Spacing to Borders
(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #6) > This issue is not about a frame, but about a text box. That is the shape, Apologies. In the Dutch translation there's sometimes a mixture of frame, text frame.., so I missed the distinction (In reply to Yousuf Philips (jay) from comment #2) > @Cor, @Stuart, @Regina: Any ideas why this is so and is there a means to add > padding (space to content) inside of a textbox? In Draw there is the Text entry in the context menu. In Writer that is alas in the menu only: Format > Text Boxe and Shape > Text Attributes. (I think people should argue more in favor of the context menu :p ) May I close as WorksForMe?
I think it is a valid issue. When you open such document in Word, you will see, that Word shows this spacing above the paragraph. So it is an interoperability issue in addition. The settings in "Text Attributes" are the padding of the whole text box. They determine the distance of the content, composed by the paragraphs and lists, from the edges of the area, which is defined for text. Word shows the actual area for text with dotted lines. The padding is written as attribute fo:padding-top of the <style:graphic-properties> element of the shape. The "Spacing above" is an attribute fo:margin-top of the <style:paragraph-properties> of each paragraph. (In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #7) > Apologies. In the Dutch translation there's sometimes a mixture of frame, > text frame.., so I missed the distinction Not only in Dutch. The terminology is confusing.

So is the new kind of textbox planned to be implemented everywhere? > The padding is set in Format > Text Box and Shape > Text Attributes > part > Spacing to Borders I opened that dialog and didnt have a line around the textbox and assume it was adding padding outside of the textbox. :D (In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #8) > I think it is a valid issue. Yep i opened this bug because of interoperability in bug 51340.
(In reply to Yousuf Philips (jay) from comment #9) > So is the new kind of textbox planned to be implemented everywhere? > Wouldn't call them new, uno:AddTextBox and uno:RemoveTextBox See bug 107687 for where the two instances collide.

The error still exists in Version: 6.4.0.0.alpha1 (x64) Build ID: cc57df8f942f239d29cb575ea5a7cb01405db787 CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 18362; UI render: GL; VCL: win; Locale: en-US (en_DK); UI-Language: en-US Calc: CL Additional information. 1. All other spacing functions (e.g., spacing below, indent) work for the first line in the textbox. Just not above spacing. 2. Above spacing works for other paragraphs in the textbox. 3. Also encountered the problem when trying to put padding for the top line. As a "workaround", I put a blank line and changed the font size to a small number (2pt, 4pt.)
