Auto update information is currently only provided for the fresh version but for those who prefer the still version, there needs to be an option to select which version should be searched. It is also confusing for those who download the still version only to find themselves updated to the fresh version without any warning. The only option in these cases is to disable auto update notifications. This request is related to my earlier question on the Ask site: https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/110072/can-the-auto-update-check-be-changed-to-still-version/?sort=latest I have also found two somewhat related, though different enhancement requests: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55347 https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97302
I agree. There should be an option between still and fresh.
Cloph, do you think this request should be closed as "won't fix"? I wouldn't support adding an option to let users _always_ be on an unsupported version. (That's how I understand the summary.) If the request is "only offer update to newer branch when it becomes the new still branch", that's already what we (try to automatically) do. (In reply to Dieter from comment #1) > I agree. There should be an option between still and fresh. Giving the user the option is tracked in bug 97302.
From chat on IRC: --- cloph: tdf#109098 is a worksforme, regular update-checker will stay on the same codeline until EOL and then propose cross-update to next version (mar updater and the appstore versions will cross-update earler though, around when new branch reaches x.y.3 - but no fixed scheme, might also be a .4) (well, actually it is a bit more advanced if the user never bothered to install udpates for the old version they will get offered the new version if that reaches the same micro version) ( https://git.libreoffice.org/infra/salt/+/refs/heads/master/hosts/gimli/updatecheck.lua#90 ) --- Thanks Cloph. Closing as "works for me".
