Description JEL 2017-07-27 01:11:15 UTC
Description:
I opened a writer file in 3.3.4 that had been created and saved in 3.3.3. The 3.3.3 document had 5 columns. The thumbnails used to open the file showed the document as 5 columns before it was opened in 3.3.4. The file reverted back to 1 column over a series of pages when opened in 3.3.4. I had to go to the columns setup and reset it to 5 columns.

Actual Results:
Create a writer document in 3.3.3 with 5 columns. Open it in 3.3.4.

Expected Results:
In my case it only had 1 column in 3.3.4 not 5 as it was saved in 3.3.3.

Reproducible: Always

LO 3.X and 4.X branches are EOL.

Please, give a try with a recent LO version. (last stable on is 5.3.4)

Sorry. My mistake. I should have said that version 5.3.4 changed the 5 column file in 5.3.3 to 1 column. Not 3.x.x.

My mistake. I listed the bug as being in versions 3.x.x and I should have said it was in versions 5.x.x. To repeat the problem. I created a 5 column Write document in 5.3.3. When I opened it in 5.3.4.2, it changed to a 1 column document. No real problem. I went to the column setup in 5.3.4 and changed to 5 columns and it works correctly and stays at 5 columns when I reopen.

Do you mean it's KO in 5.3.3 but it's ok on 5.3.4?
(If it's also KO in 5.3.4, version must be the oldest between both so 5.3.3)

Forget the question of my previous comment.

Could you attach the original file from 5.3.3 so we can try to reproduce this?

I believe I have solved the problem. I had created the original file in 5.3.3 with 5 columns in ODT format. Several persons requested a copy so I converted to the RTF format since I wasn't sure they could open an ODT file and then emailed this RTF file to them. The file I opened in 5.3.4 that changed from 5 columns to 1 column was this RTF file not an ODT file. I went back to an older file with 5 columns that was in the ODT format and it opened correctly in 5.3.4. So the problem was in opening an RTF file in 5.3.4 that was created in 5.3.3. I apologize for not noticing this.

I had saved the original 5.3.3 RTF file in 5.3.4 with 5 columns so the original 5.3.3 RTF file isn't available to send you. I am a retiree and have been keeping a list of those retirees who have deceased. This is an ever changing list and I should be working and saving in the ODT format in the future -- only changing to RTF temporarily to send to others. I guess that I should ask the other people if the RTF files are opening OK in their word processors.
