Description Telesto 2017-08-03 16:02:36 UTC
Description:
A master page template can't be simply replaced by a different one

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Impress
2. Choose the Bright Blue Template
3. View -> Slide Master
4. Select Slide 1 and try to replace it with a different template master page (shown in the Side Bar). The Bright Blue Page isn’t replaced, but a new slide will appear above
5. Delete the second slide (Bright Blue template)
6. Select the first slide again an choose a different template (know it can be done)

Actual Results:
The template 'in use' can be replaced easily

Expected Results:
It should be easy to change a master slide template

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Repro.

It behaves differently in 3.6: step 6 behaves like step 4.

Slide 1 is in normal view and not slide master view, so not sure what is being said in step 4.

I reproduced in 6.1.3.2. Here's a slightly corrected description

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Impress
2. Choose the Bright Blue Template
3. View -> Slide Master
4. Select master slide 1 (named BrightBlue) and chose a new template in Master Sildes side bar. New master slide is added (this is what I expect to happen).
5. Delete the original master slide (named BrightBlue).
6. Select the first master slide again an choose a different template.

What happens:
Replaces the current master slide (i.e. behaves differently than in step 4), or refuses to do anything at all if I try to choose BrightBlue.

What should happen:
Steps 4. a 6. should do the same, i.e. either both add new master slide or both replace the currently selected master slide (I prefer the former).

I reproduced in:

I was also able to partly reproduce in 3.3. Steps 4 a 6 behave the same (like step 4 in current LO), except when I try to choose the original master slide. Then only one master slide remains, but is unchanged. (I started with Protfolio instead of Bright Blue, because in 3.3 this template wasn't present).

So actually I think I noticed a second bug in the same functionality. The original bug is REGRESSION, new bug is carried over from OpenOffice.

I see what you mean, but fixing the regression will not get what Telesto wants.

This is a user error.
View > SLide Master is not meant to apply different slide masters, and not at all to apply a different Slide Master to a Slide Master (step 4)

View > Slide Master (View > Master Slide nowadays) is to edit/create slide masters :)

Possibly the UI or Help is not as clear as could be? Not sure.
