Bad blurred rendering of the font/s

The text is not clear in both menus and dialogs (UI) and the Writer documents/Calc sheets. See the attached picture. Other software products don't seem to have this issue.

For me the attached picture is clear.

LibreOffice vs Thunderbird menu comparison
Comment 4 Ivaylo Tinchev 2017-08-08 07:03:27 UTC
I added 2 more screenshots for document rendering and the menus.

If you have a skilled eye working in typography you will my find the big difference even without the comparison pictures. Note how the letters in Writer are blurred in places and not well readable compared to those in WordPad. Also not the same for the menu. I don't know if it is because of a different font in the menu or a different kind of rendering somehow.
Comment 5 Xisco Faulí 2017-08-08 07:42:00 UTC
I don't see much differences neither. Anyway, is antialiasing enabled? what happens if you enable/disable it?
Comment 6 Ivaylo Tinchev 2017-08-08 08:06:09 UTC
Antialiasing was enabled. However turning it on or off does not change anything in the look of the document.
Comment 7 Timur 2017-08-08 08:12:18 UTC
There was Bug 106990 that was supposed to be fixed in 5.4.0.3 but https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106990#c84 said it's not.
Please try also with master that is installed alongside: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/.
Comment 8 Ivaylo Tinchev 2017-08-08 08:32:06 UTC
I cannot afford to install the alpha in the working environment. Let's hope this will be fixed in next releases. This issue will look really bad when using Impress for presentations which I currently don't use but those who do have a real trouble.

Thank you for your cooperation. I will be waiting for the fix in future.
Comment 9 Timur 2017-08-08 08:53:08 UTC
Master is installed alongside the regular working version, and it doesn't associate with file extensions, so it's convenient for testing.
You reported menu issue. Impress is another Bug 107090.
Comment 10 Ivaylo Tinchev 2017-08-08 09:07:44 UTC
The rendering is an issue in both the menu and the document and enabling or disabling the anti-aliasing doesn't help. I suppose that fixing the problem in the menus and Writer, will also fix the issue in Impress and the opposite.

The installer of the current alpha crushed in the beginning so I will leave the issue for fixing in the future.

Thank you.

Screens comparison of the UI of LibreOffice v5.4.3.1 and v5.2.7.2 to see the difference between the font rendering quality of this two versions on a 1920x1200 display. The rendering is correct with LibreOffice 5.2.7.2, but is not good with LibreOffice v5.4.3.1, so I keep LibreOffice 5.2.7.2 on my computer.

See attachments:
- "LibreOffice v5.4.3.1 UI font rendering"
- "LibreOffice v5.2.7.2 UI font rendering"
NB : You can download a Photoshop file for easy comparison. The 2 layers are the same capture than PNG files in attachments.

List versions (the best to the worst):
- LibreOffice 5.2.7.2 (good)
- LibreOffice 5.4.3.1 (average)
- LibreOffice 5.4.2 or 5.3.6 (bad)

Before to test all this versions, LibreOffice 4.5 was installed on my computer and the UI font rendering of this old version was good, like the 5.2.7.2 version I think.

NB : Sorry for my multiple comments, I didn't found how to delete them.

The fonts render better in the new versions. The old problem seems solved.
Comment 23 Xisco Faulí 2018-05-02 16:37:51 UTC
Thanks for retesting with the latest version.
