Description Muriel 2017-09-16 02:46:02 UTC
Description:
My spreadsheet function was working fine until the 5.4.1 download. Now, I cannot open a spreadsheet and work on it, as it is supposedly a read-only file now. I have removed that status via the properties tab, but it won't stay. I also cannot save a file without giving it a new name every time I need to save it. And, in the process of trying to copy and paste in a spreadsheet, the entire program just locked up, flashing between one thing and another. I had to use task manager to kill it. Upon trying to recover the document, it has failed. I have uninstalled the 5.4.1 version of Libre and re-installed the previous version. The problems were still there. I re-downloaded 5.4.1 and re-installed it. The problems have continued.

As I am only having problems with Libre Calc, and only since the 5.4.1 download, I am assuming something went wrong with this version.

Update: It seems I am having the same problem with the Writer, too.

Actual Results:
See above.

Expected Results:
Should be able to open file, edit content, save, etc. as usual. No read-only limits without intentionally setting them.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Sorry. I am not a "bug person", just a Libre user and fan. :)

Sorry for the delay.....I did reset the user profile as per instructions. The problems persist.

Unfortunately, I have to add that we have experienced Libre crashing on us when attempting to format cells (in calc) or highlighting (in calc or writer). The screen flashes, does not respond, and we have to kill the program via task manager. Upon attempting to recover documents, they fail.

Also, when attempting to save without giving the document a new file name, the system is saving an empty file with a name such as "document0, document1, document2", and so on.

Most frustrating! :(

Bug is single issue only. And this one is not clear and valid bug report, it has different issues which may point to wrong installation.

Is this for a specific spreadsheet only? Please attach if so. And write exact steps.
Do you open it form local drive or network? Did you test from different local location?
If for all, please try with 5.3.7 (rc1 available, rc2 later) or 5.4.3 (when it's out).

Please write what version worked fine and test it again.

Sorry for the atypical bug report. As I mentioned, I am not a "bug person", just a Libre user who is frustrated at this point. :(

The last version of Libre that worked without problems was 5.3.4. After doing the update to 5.4.1 these problems have come up. The update transpired as they always have with no issues. I get the update available notice in a document, go to the website, download the new version, and click it to install. I've never had a problem before.

I have uninstalled 5.4.1, restarted the computer, and installed 5.3.4 a couple of times, but the same issues are present where 5.3.4 had none previously. I have re-downloaded the 5.4.1 update and the issues are still present. On other computers that have not had the 5.4.1 update, the 5.3.4 version still works perfectly.

I have had these issues with every document I have tried to create, access, and/or edit with 5.4.1, as well as on the computer that I have tried to go back to 5.3.4 with. So, the problem is happening with many different documents for both Calc and Writer.

I'm afraid, you have write a seperate bug report for each problem you have. I don't think that it will be possible to solve them otherwise. And please provide detailed steps like
1.
2.
3.
so that another person is able to confirm your bugs.

I am sorry, but I am really not a bug person, as I have said. So, I really don't know how to write a bug report, particularly for every problem this latest version of Libre has. I have listed the issues and what I've done to try to remedy them. I've been using Libre for several years now, and have never had any problems of this sort. The only thing I can report is what I have, although now I can also add that I just downloaded and installed the 5.4.2.2 version of Libre and all the problems are still there. :( I don't know what the problem is, but they seem to be a technical issue with Libre. Downloading and installing is about as simple as it can be, and as I said, I've never had a problem before this.

I hope someone figures it out and "kills the bug" soon. Right now, Libre is not very functional for us. :(

Muriel: what about these questions?

It sounds like you are dealing with a corporate deployment. Do you know you can get paid support: https://www.documentfoundation.org/gethelp/developers/

Bug report is for errors in LO, which is hardly the case here. You seem to need support, more like local IT support for this specific issue or paid support for all-IT.
First step is to remove user profile and see if problem persists. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

I am opening calc and writer from the local drive. The problem ONLY exists on the one computer where I have the two newest versions of Libre. I have other computers with Windows 10 that I have NOT updated Libre on and everything there functions as it should.

As I have said, I have already removed the user profile and the problem has not changed. This does not appear to be an IT issue. The problems ONLY exist on the one computer that I have updated Libre on (with the two latest updates). On other computers I have that I have NOT done the Libre updates on, the problems do not exist. All the computers in question are running Windows 10. I have been using Libre for several years now, and have never had a problem. Only after I updated with 5.4.1 did the problem come up, and they have remained no matter what I have done to remedy them.

I downloaded and installed the latest version of Libre (5.4.3) and it appears to have repaired all the problems that I had been having with Calc and Writer.

Thank you!!! :)
