Description: I have a large spreadsheet (1Mb) which is running a number of calculations all the time. It has a number of graphs on different worksheets that I use for monthly updates for our charity. When I click on any of these graphs to edit it the computer restarts immediately. I thought my file might be too big and tried a small test one but the same thing happened. It also happens when I click on the chart icon on the menu bar. My mac is running Sierra 10.12.6. I have another computer with a different user who can access the spreadsheet from Dropbox and they don't have the same problem. I have endeavoured to find my User Profile to do what is suggested below but it is hidden on my machine and none of the techniques I have found in your link or anywhere else is bringing it out into the open. Actual Results: click on a chart in any calc spreadsheet or on the chart icon and the computer will restart. Expected Results: It restarts the computer. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No. I can't get into it. Additional Info: Can't work out how to open Libreoffice in safe mode either.... User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_6) AppleWebKit/604.1.38 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.0 Safari/604.1.38
@Sheila : we'll need more information I'm afraid. Please provide your hardware details, accessible via the Apple menu > About this Mac Also please indicate whether you are accessing the file from Dropbox or whether the file is stored locally. From your description, it would appear that the file is stored in a Dropbox folder ? Please also indicate what kind of spreadsheet file : Excel 97 Excel 2003 Excel 2010 or later LO Calc Does the spreadsheet file or any of the graphs reference external objects (other sheets, CSV, data sources) ? Ideally, we would need a minimalist spreadsheet which reproduces the problem (even if just on your Mac) so that we can test independently, otherwise we will be just guessing as to how the sheet is made up and might not be able to reproduce in the same test conditions. Also, you mention that the Mac reboots. Generally, a crash of this kind is probably hardware related, to there should be a log stored in the system when this happens. These logs are generally available via the Console.app, but the files themselves are stored in the /Library/Logs/CrashReporter or /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports folders which are in the root directory of the volume on which the OS is installed. Ideally, it would be useful to have the log at the moment the crash occurs and you can upload that/those files as an attachment to this bug report (Add an attachment link). If the files are too big, then try and zip them with the OSX provided compression utility.
Also please mention which version of LibreOffice you are using.
Created attachment 137104 [details] This is a small test spreadsheet that has the same problem on my computer as my charity one thats causing the problem. As requested in your email.
Created attachment 137105 [details] 3 files from /library/logs/diagnosticReports which happened when it crashed as I checked my test file would crash. It did. These 3 files were generated when the computer restarted as I tried to make a chart in the test file. It then rebooted again half way through the reboot. I'm not sure which report you need so I've attached them all. I can't directly attach the file, because it won't let me see the Mactintosh HD in the attachment window for some reason. Hope this works. Thanks.
Hi Alex, Thanks so much for having a look at it. Here’s some answers to your questions. Sorry if its a complicated one. The Hardware is as follows: MacBook Pro 17-inch, early 2011. Processor 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, Memory 8 Gb 1333 Mhz DDR3 with an Intel HD graphics 3000 512 mB My version of Libreoffice is 5.2.3.5 The file is stored in Dropbox and I have a copy on my computer and also another backup on a USB stick. They are all behaving in the same way on my machine. I have been saving it as an Excel (97-2003) file so that our charities accountant can read it easily. It’s extension is .xlsx if that is helpful They all reference internal sheets - so it is one files with about 10 sheets inside it. The graphs reference things in their own sheets. No problem. I will attach one called Test.xlsx which reproduces the problem on my machine but not the other computer. Many thanks again. I hope you can help. Sheila
Thanks Sheila, I'll test and report back here.

My tests were all run on a locally stored version of the XLSX file provided. @Sheila : - currently my suggestions to try and resolve this are relatively limited : - possible hardware incompatibility with the graphics drivers - by chance, is OpenGL activated in your LibreOffice user preferences ? - the version you indicate in your response does not appear in the list of TDF released versions, so I'm assuming that either you have got that version number slightly wrong, or else you are using a version of LibreOffice provided by someone other than TDF, for example one of Collabora's versions (Vanilla or paid) obtained from the Apple Store - if that is the case, please mention that in your reply - a LibreOffice user configuration folder problem. The LibreOffice user configuration folder can be found in: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice By default, this directory is hidden. There are several different ways to get hidden files and folders to display : Open the Finder Go to your Macintosh HD folder (access this from Devices in the left column) Hold down CMD-Shift-. (dot) All the hidden files will become visible. Open the Finder Hold down the Alt (Option) and choose Go You will see the ~/Library folder listed below the Home folder Alternatively, you could do the following: Open the Finder Choose Go from the menu bar Choose Go to Folder (or Shift-CMD-G) Type ~/Library into the text box and press go Alternatively: Open Terminal Type the following: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles true then: killall Finder Starting LibreOffice in Safe Mode involves first starting LibreOffice normally, then LibreOffice menu Help > Restart in Safe Mode. If you don't have this entry, then you have a version of LibreOffice that is not up to date and/or not released by TDF.
Thanks again, Here are my answers and what I've tried next. OpenGL is deactivated. You are correct. I was using LibreOffice Vanilla. I have now uninstalled that and installed version 5.4.2.2 It is still suffering with the same problem. Assuming, therefore, that it was probably a corrupted User profile, I first tried restarting LibreOffice in safe mode but it had the same problem. Just in case I also changed the User profile to user-old to force it make a new one and that did not solve the problem either. So.....have you any other ideas? My next step, unless you can think of something else to try, is to restore my Mac to factory settings and start again. Thanks again for all your help on this!
Hi Again, Just had a chat with Apple on their online technical support thing. They told me that the panic report was generated by a Kernel which they said is usually software related - there are other panic messages for hardware problems. They said since it only happens with this application and only for certain bits of it then its probably the software. I've attached a copy of the latest panic report in case that helps at all. Does this help with any other ideas? If not thats fine just let me know. And thanks so much again!
Created attachment 137141 [details] Here is the text copied out of the latest panic report that my MacBook generated. Hope it can shed some light.... This is the text from the panic report my computer generated after restarting
@Sheila : thanks for your feedback. Irrespective of what Apple might say, it does seem like a hardware problem linked to your graphics chip, as indicated by the latest attachment. There is a known, but as yet, undetermined root cause that appears to occur with LibreOffice Calc in particular, and which causes a crash which might be similar to what you are reporting. It appears to be linked to LO code wanting to switch the graphics chip to run in a particular way. Some people have reported that they can work around this by starting LibreOffice from the terminal with the following command: /Applications/LibreOffice/Content/MacOS/soffice and then keeping the terminal app open until they have finished working with LibreOffice. However, this solution does not work for everyone. Could you give this a try and report back ? Could you also please indicate what graphics chip hardware you have on your Mac and your output screen(s) and resolution(s) ?
@Sheila : sorry about the repeated request for graphics hardware information, I see that you have already provided it. Please ignore this and just try testing the alternative Terminal.app launch of LibreOffice.
@Sheila : you could also try using the following utility : https://gfx.io/ to see whether that can give you any clues as to what might be going on.
