Description jhmnieuwenhuis 2017-11-06 08:51:20 UTC
I am using libreoffice writer(5.4.2) to write documentation on software installation and configuration.

When I copy a piece of text that is in a bullet list from writer and paste it in a gnome terminal, the bullet is also pasted.

    • export PGDATA=$(cat /run/secrets/POSTGRES_PGDATA)
    • pg_ctl restart

In older versions of libreoffice the bullet was not pasted.

Regards Hans

There are some discussion about this topic in bug 49076.

One or the other behavior can be useful, depending on the context. Perhaps the user can get an option, whether numbering should be included into the clipboard content or not, something like Alt+c do not copy numbering. Set this to enhancement.

Bug affects internal copy and paste operations too, not just to external terminals.

I just upgraded from v5.3.5 to v5.4.7.2 and this bug pretty makes the new version unusable for us. This is not because we're pasting to a terminal but because it also happens when pasting elsewhere in the same ODT document. We make extensive use of bulleted paragraph styles and we are now having to manually delete extraneous space and bullet characters every time we copy and paste. We were already using unformatted pastes to avoid the longstanding problem of otherwise creating new bulleted paragraphs that cannot be unbulleted without manually clearing the paragraph style, but that no longer works, leaving us with no practical workaround.

To be clear, when I do an unformatted paste within an ODT document, I do NOT expect to get ANY formatting remnants of the source paragraph style. To me "unformatted text" means "plain text" devoid of formatting.

I have attached a demonstration of the mess this bug creates.

Please update the title of this bug report to reflect its much larger effect.

Please raise the priority of this bug as it effectively breaks unformatted paste.

I don't have permission to change the importance, but this bug report should most definitely NOT be an enhancement request. It is a serious usability bug. Unless someone has a workaround to suggest, we may need to downgrade everyone to a non-broken version.

What jhmnieuwenhuis reported is NotABug per bug 49076.
There's valuable info there that bullets are copied from full paragraph and not from part. That should be in Help.

What Carl reported was reproduced in LO 5.4 but not with current LO, I see already in 6.0. So I set WFM, so that maybe rebisect reveals where it was fixed.
