Description: I am using : Version: 5.1.6.2 Build ID: 1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial2 installed on Linux Mint 18.1 cin. I think I have been pretty well through all the options of making the spellcheck work, but no luck. Pressing F7 results in "documents checked" without id mistakes. Tools/ Spelling Grammar/ Options - every thing appropriate is checked However the drop down menue in Spelling and Grammar "text language" shows "none" and can not be changed. When cklicked on it it shows a check mark mark besides US English. Tools/Options/ Language settings/ Language is set to Default English Canada tools/Options/ Language settings / writing aids all apropriate boxes are checked Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open office writer 2.start new document 3.start typing with mistakes Actual Results: if auto check is enabled it show show now, but it does not Hit F7 alternatively and note that spell problems are not detected. 5.1.X, 5.2.X are EOL and 5.3.X will be soon. Could you give a try to a recent LO version (5.4.3 or at least 5.4.2)? For Ubuntu, there's LO ppa, I don't know about Mint.
Do you have the Hunspell dictionary installed? https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/hunspell-en-ca
