Hi, I'm currently having some trouble with an impress presentation that is updated quite often and around 30MB of size (contains pics and videos), and keeping older versions of the file in a directory occupies around 700MB. A good solution would be to just check the documents into a git repository, which is pretty much state of the art. Unfortunately, this does not effectively work with document files (as zip), and not even with the flat xml versions of files. I found some discussion in a libreoffice user forum, where someone proposed to use libgit2 with libreoffice to store a document and it's parts into a git repository or just a directory structure, instead of a zip file structure, and the given answer was, that this will not be done since this is not an Open Document defined standard. On the other hand, Oasis does not seem to make any effort to make this part of a standard. However, that current situation is unpleasant, and I'd like to propose to implement this (maybe call it 'experimental'), it would be really useful. Just store things in a git repository as you would in a zip file, and allow to maintain this structure with git. regards
This does not sound like something that should be implemented by LibreOffice, but rather some general solution. Why not create a script that unzips and re-zips the file contents, which are stored in a git repo?
