Description Richard 2018-03-02 13:13:04 UTC
Description:
I have installed LibreOffice from LibreOffice_5.4.5_Win_x64.msi. Help reports version 5.4.5.1. I have run the help pack installer LibreOffice_5.4.5_Win_x64_helppack_en-GB.msi and also re-run it and chosen Repair. Still when I select Help > LibreOffice Help I get "The LibreOffice built-in help is not installed on your computer".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LO Writer
2. Select Help
3. Select LibreOffice Help

Actual Results:
What more can I say?

Expected Results:
No change. Still the same "not installed" error.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
As quoted above: The LibreOffice built-in help is not installed on your computer

Hi Richard,

I think you didn't installed the help pack. Repair is proposed only in the main installer when install was allready made.
Verify it by the Control Panel: You have to find here the main intaller and the help pack once install done.
Can you confirm?
Comment 2 Jacques Guilleron 2018-03-02 16:20:42 UTC
Sorry. You had to read: Control Panel > Programs and Features
Comment 3 Richard 2018-03-03 13:52:01 UTC
Control Panel > Programs and Features shows "LibreOffice 5.4 Help Pack (English(United Kingdom))" installed, Size 24.1 MB, Version 5.4.5.1
(as well as the main application).

But the main application still tells me "... not installed ...".

Open Help > About LibreOffice.
Locale must be set to en-GB.
If not, open Options and in Language settings > Languages
Set User interface, Locale setting to English(UK). Same set for
Default Languages for Documents > Western:
This done, restart LibreOffice.
Help is it available now?
Comment 5 Richard 2018-03-05 12:02:23 UTC
Thank you for persisting with this. However the Locale was already correct.

Well, I have de-installed and re-installed both LibreOffice and the Help pack, and still got the same message "The LibreOffice built-in help is not installed on your computer."

In desperation I have de-installed again and this time installed version 6 by running LibreOffice_6.0.2_Win_x64.msi and LibreOffice_6.0.2_Win_x64_helppack_en-GB.msi

STILL the same. I'm not doing anything special, just running the installers as downloaded from www.libreoffice.org.

Hello Richard,
The help system has been redesigned in LibreOffice 6.1
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

Thank you for getting back to me about this.

I have downloaded and run LibreOffice_6.1.3_Win_x64.msi and LibreOffice_6.1.3_Win_x64_helppack_en-GB.msi

I accepted the installation defaults apart from not having a desktop shortcut.

I then loaded an .ods document, clicked on Help and got the error message again.

A possible clue is that the helppack is en-GB and Windows Region and Language > Current location: is United Kingdom BUT the error message says "The LibreOffice built-in help for current UI language (English (USA)) is not installed on your computer". So it appears that I have the GB version of help but the application is looking for the USA version.

What happens if you install LibreOffice_6.1.3_Win_x64_helppack_en-US.msi, does it work ?

The version now available on the website is 6.2.3, so I've downloaded and installed that and the corresponding version of LibreOffice itself. Local help now works, which seems to confirm that the problem was the US version of the application looking for the US version of help when what was installed was the GB version.

I would prefer to have the GB versions of both, but better the US application with Help that works than any version with Help that doesn't work.
