Description: Currently PDF handling, management, manipulation and advanced functionality such as OCRing and creating forms are non existent in one single open source package. It would benefit a great deal of people to have an equivalent of Adobes' Acrobat Professional. A slight overview of what it can do are OCR in place, reordering pages on the fly via drag and drop, merging PDFs, writing PDFs, saving outputs from any desired pages found in a PDF and several others. An exhaustive list of its functionality would prove unhelpful because it deals with proprietary services and features which exist only with Adobe software. Aforementioned abilities are most relevant. There is good news for this project because it does not need to be written from scratch, there exist powerful and very capable open source solutions to bits and peices of aformentioned functionality specifically they are: -Tesseract OCR engine, will gain openCL support soon -pdftk - powerful pdf manipulation -imagemagic,gimp,gegl PDF capable image manipulation there several more but those are the ones I know of and they constitute a great deal of what is required for this project to be a success. Such an open source software will cause great attention from all over the computing landscape, libreoffice will be taken more seriously by academia and industry alike and it will gain more users because of it. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Choose to do something useful with a PDF document 2.Realize all methods are either command line or don't fulfill what you desire 3.Post bug to hugely successful libreoffice creativity suite to make a solution Actual Results: Lets hope it works Expected Results: Please give it serious consideration. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Many well made tools are well are already available to do bits and pieces of the big picture User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.186 Safari/537.36
This project would make the libreoffice suit complete and cause major upheaval for popular pdf softwares available.
I seriously suggest telling current libreoffice users and fans about a plan to implement this and thereafter go to kickstarter to raise funds for outsourcing the tedious bits of development.
