Description mgriffin 2018-03-24 15:05:54 UTC
Description:
Often when editing a cell with text in it, the edit fails because the new text gets entered one character at a time, overwriting the previously entered character. Sometimes the existing text is also partially or completely erased. This happens more often when editing directly in the cell itself, but also sometimes when editing in the entry field at the top. This bug has been with me for a while, so I can't remember which version it started on. As a work around, I can enter the text in an empty cell, copy it, and paste it in. It does not happen consistently so I am not sure how to ensure that it can be reproduced.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Edit a text field with some existing content (field content) [note this bug only occurs on about 20% of the edits, and I haven't noticed a causal pattern]
2.click in the cell, and type (new text) at the beginning
3.the result would then be (tfield content) because all the other characters did not register properly

Actual Results:
tfield content

Expected Results:
new text field content

Reproducible: Always

I will try reseting my usere profil,

@mgriffin : does it happen more often when you switch from another application window or workspace and then double-click in the Calc cell ?
Comment 3 mgriffin 2018-03-28 14:01:56 UTC
@alex_thurgood, thanks for your question, I just tested it on one file. It occurs when I double click into the cell, and select a part of the text to overwrite. I could reproduce it fairly quickly in once cell, but then after switching back and forth to other applications, it did not occur again even though I repeated the same steps.

mgriffin, please write if you still have those issues with some new LO version, like 5.4.7 or 6.0.6.
Since you say "OpenGL enabled: Yes" does it happen with OpenGL disabled in LO options?

Thanks for looking at this again.

The error persists, although I am using 6.0.6.2. If i edit a cell, and type a German special character (like ü), the input simply overwrites the single character repeatedly, rather than entering the word.

OpenCL is switched off, I could not find Open GL in the preferences.

Kind regards

Matthew
