Description J. Alves 2018-03-29 21:29:08 UTC
Description:
Starting with version 5.4, Impress started doing something that I think it unacceptable: what it shows on the slide show is different from what I see in design mode.

If it is an image that falls slightly out of the slide area, it gets distorted to fit in. If it is a text box that falls out, it gets resized and the text distorted. Sometimes, lines get interrupted. For some examples, see the screenshots of what is in design mode and what I see in the slide show.

This happens in different presentations, even a completely new one.

Interestingly, if I export the slide show to a PDF file, things look normal in the PDF file (things look exactly like they did in design mode).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a slide with a text box that falls out of the slide anywhere
2. Put text in box
3. Go to slide show

Actual Results:
If text box overflows slide boundaries, the box gets resized, with text distortion, to fit inside. Same with images.

Expected Results:
I expected that, as happened until v. 5.3, text or images overflowing the slide would simply not show, and everything else would stay as it looked in design mode.

Reproducible: Always

See that, compared to the image in design mode, this is resized and deformed to fall entirely within the slide.

Here, the text box overflow the slide boundary at the bottom, but no text actually is there.

Now, the text is all chopped, when the overflow was at the bottom and no text was actually out there. I have not tested the myriad variants for this.

I repro in 6.0, but not anymore in 6.1.

You could test in an appimage of a daily build to verify the fix: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/appimage

Arch Linux 64-bit
Version: 6.1.0.0.alpha0+

Hi, thanks! Yes, the problem does not occur on a new presentation created with the daily build of 6.1 (downloaded today, 2018-04-02). So the problem seems to be gone.

On the other hand, any of the preexisting presentations that I open and try to do a slide show crash immediately on 6.1, but I suppose that comes with daily builds sometimes. Will wait for the final version and hope the distortion problem stays fixed until then.

Any possibility of this fix being back-ported to 5.4, do you think?

There is a small possibility as there will still be one release: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/5.4#5.4.7_release

Adding backportRequest.
