Description Roger Jarvis 2018-05-11 22:24:56 UTC
Description:
Not sure where the bug resides, but...

I have upgraded from Ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04 LTS (64 bit), and superkey + arrows no longer works consistently with LibreOffice programs. Superkey + left arrow should snap the window to the left half of the screen, Superkey + right arrrow to the right. Similarly, dragging the window left or right should achieve the same placing. These functions still work correctly with Impress, Draw and Math but no longer do with Writer, Calc or Base. However, if I open two of the first three the others behave as expected while those are open but not when they are closed again!

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open one Libreoffice program
2.Press superkey + right arrow (or: drag the window to the right)
3.Repeat with further programs

Actual Results:
With Impress, Draw and Math: the window snapped to the right half of the screen.
With Writer, Calc and Base: nothing.
Same results with left arrow.
But while two of the first three programs were open the last three also worked correctly.

Note: the Help window responded correctly when opened from any of the programs.

Expected Results:
All Windows should behave as described.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Did the same upgrade, AMD cpu and graphics.

I can not confirm the behavior with the superKey and arrow keys, that is working with all the modules for me.

The dragging behavior I can, the windows do not dock if I drag them towards the window edge. Not sure if that is something that is changeable in the desktop configuration or not.

I'm using the default desktop for Ubuntu 18.04 btw and have tried it with hardware acceleration on and off, and OpenCL rendering on and off.

Could you try another desktop (x11) and see if it solves the problem ? Wayland may be enabled as default, but sometimes not working correctly with every program.
Comment 3 Roger Jarvis 2018-05-13 17:41:01 UTC
Following MM's suggestion:
are
1. The only Desktop options the gear mechanism offers are Wayland (default), Ubuntu and LXPt, and I haven't been able to discover how to import alternatives. LXPt simply gives me a desktop from which I can go nowhere (have to shut down with the computer's power button), but Ubuntu looks the same as Wayland.

2. On Ubuntu, Writer, Calc and Base will respond correctly to the superkey + arrow commands if any other LibreOffice program is running, but not if they are open alone. Otherwise, things are exactly as described for Wayland.

3. However, since achieving this on Ubuntu, Wayland is now responding in exactly the same way!

4. Whichever desktop I select from the gear mechanism I usually now have to put the password in least twice, and sometimes it seems to be loading up but then freezes; I have to use the power button and start again. Closing down and restarting processes also much longer that 17.10 was.

You should report this against Ubuntu: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Ubuntu

Best regards. JBF
Comment 5 Xisco Faulí 2018-06-14 10:27:35 UTC
To be certain the reported issue is not
related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your
Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and
re-test?

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present
Comment 6 Roger Jarvis 2018-06-14 22:43:57 UTC
The problem behaviour is exactly the same in safe mode as in normal mode - the WIKI guidance says this means the problem is not caused by the profile, so I did not reset anything.

Please report this to Ubuntu.
