Description zahra 2018-05-16 08:10:58 UTC
Description:
hi.
i wished that learn using libreoffice impress.
however, wizard is the best way specially for novice users like me to learn new thing.
presentation wizard was accessible for blind users.
but unfortunately this great feature is removed in 5.3! and presentation template has some issues for accessibility!
sorry for my imperfect english and because i am not familiar with presentation, but i realized that i cant select some part with the keyboard.

Steps to Reproduce:
1- open libreoffice impress.
2- template selection should be appeared.
3- choose one category except all categories and also presentation.
4- press tab button to find list thumbnail view.
5- press arrow keys to find one item to select.
6- press tab again to find settings dropdown button.

Actual Results:
you cant navigate thumbnail view easily by using keyboard and in all categories except all categories and presentation,
nvda does not say anything in using thumbnail view and also dropdown button settings is not accessible too.

Expected Results:
using list view instead of thumbnail view and accessibility of settings in the next tab press.
also provide a solution for users to activate presentation wizard again to learn using impress and also benefit from its accessibility support.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
i use windows xp, but i believe that it occures in all windows, not sure about other operating systems.
i dont understand different changes in libreoffice 5.2 and later which break accessibility and in some changes, developers forget to test there new features that whether accessible for blind users or not.
again, i checked expert configurations and type different things to return presentation wizard instead of template, without success.
the last thing which i type was presentation-template
and found 19 results.
which item exactly should i change to activate wizard in to presentation again?
thanks so much for your great program and God bless you for your efforts!

I cannot reproduce your problem. I use Windows 10 and have tried it with LibreOffice 6.0 and NVDA 2018.1.1. I get speech on all fields of the template dialog and on all items.

do you mean that you can use keyboard and when you press tab and then down arrow, nvda reads all items for you?
for me, thumbnail view and dropdown settings are not accessible.
dropdown settings is completely inaccessible for me, when i press enter to activate the settings, nvda does not read anything for me.
and about thumbnail view,
nvda only reads the items of all categories and presentation,
and for six other items, when i press tab in thumbnail view, i cant navigate using down arrow keys and nvda does not read the items for me.

You need Alt+down arrow to open the drop-down list. Yes, NVDA reads all the items in the drop-down. It reads the item wording and tells "third of eight" for example.

Tab key goes to the thumbnail view. In the thumbnail view you move for and back with left and right key. NVDA reads the text, which can be seen on the screen, and sometimes some additional information. It reads the text of the item, which has the focus. I don't know how NVDA can be configured to always only read the text on the screen.

NVDA reads it without "Enter", but when the item gets the focus when you use up and down arrow to go through the list.

I guess that there have been some improvements in the meantime in the operating system and in the apps. Windows XP is really old. You should test, whether a modern operating system, and current versions of NVDA and LibreOffice would solve the problem for you.

i did not know alt and down arrow, i appreciate your help.
but i tested it and nvda is still silent for me. i mean that using alt down arrow, did not make any change for reading of nvdasettings dropdown.
thumbnail view also is not very accessible, because even when i use right and left arrow, nvda reads the items randomly. for example: 3 of 8 5 of 8 8 of 8 instead of 1 of 8 2 of 8 3 of 8 etc!
the most easy method for me is list view.
i dont understand why developers made this task difficult by removing presentation wizard and adding this complex templete selection.how can i restore presentation wizard by changing expert configurations?

hello.
sorry for my very late reply.
since i use windows xp and cant test with newer version than 5.4.7, i cant guarantee the result of newer versions!
but, most of times, dropdown buttons are not very accessible for screen readers.
or at least, its very difficult to use them.
i did not understand why libreoffice developers removed presentation wizard.
it was very helpful, step by step instruction for creating presentation, and it even it had template!
i really wish that libreoffice developers return presentation wizard back!
