when working with a MASTER document which includes linked in documents (as files)... ... it is an unnecessarily clumsy method that, when we want to refresh the master document so that the changes done to the subdocuments will take place, we have to go: Navigator -> right click --> update --> all this should be done by 1 click on a "refresh" icon in the navigator toolbar... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - enhancement #2 :) BTW, there could be an AUTO-refresh "switch" in the navigator toolbar, too... which, if switched ON, would make LO Writer generate a POP-UP whenever subdocuments have been touched / changed.. - - - enhancement #3 and there could also be a setting (possibly in the small pop-up screen) like: "accept changes automatically" or refresh automatically... in which case a pop-up would only inform the user that "this subdocument 'name' has been modified" by user'XY' (and the user would only be mentioned if not identical with the current user)
Created attachment 142182 [details] illustration: this is how you get subdocuments to "refresh"
The Navigator is primarily meant to list and browse through objects. So I'd rather expect the update button somewhere else, in the menu or on a special toolbar (haven't worked with master documents for ages). Other opinions?
Heiko, thank you for your remark! In any case... if you take it like "the function of NAVIGATOR" is to browse through objects, a REFRESH BUTTON might be, still, adequate on NAVIGATOR itself... cause it means "refresh view" or "update view"... just take the web browsers.. "refresh / reload" is the 2nd most important BUTTON in their visible tool bar since ever.. browsers are for viewing, so refreshing "the view" is really one of the core functionalities they need to perform... part of it because this is what the USER needs to do when using the browser -- to browse the web pages... when you work with MASTER document, you ARE SUPPOSED TO use the NAVIGATOR cause MASTER document means that you work with a COMPLEX of documents.. which have to be organized and kept under control... and NAVIGATOR could be (viewed as) the DASHBOARD of this functionality
WHAT I noticed now, to my great surprise, is that there is an UPDATE icon on the top toolbar of the NAVIGATOR window... it is right there in the TOP TOOL BAR :) the reason why I overlooked it must have been that perhaps I read how to refresh it, and they said "right click, etc"... ........................................ so, what I asked for is already there !! ........................................ still, further enhancements are possible, and hopefully due to come :) for example a refresh button for documents only.. so that we would need ONE click only to activate this functionality... next there could be enhancement #2 and enhancement #3 (as suggested in the Original Post) PS: I can't believe that I overlooked it!! I am so sorry!!!
(In reply to peter josvai from comment #4) > I can't believe that I overlooked it!! Always happy about simple solution :-) Don't hesitate to file more tickets; we need those input esp. on uncommon workflows such as using master documents.
