Description legoroboticist 2018-08-18 00:30:09 UTC
Description:
I tried to paste images at the cursor. LibreWriter (5.2.3.3) pastes at the top of the document. The first image (screenshot I want to submit on another web-site) pastes at the very top of the document.

What I tried to do was have a few words to describe the screenshot below it. I entered the description, took the screenshot and attempted to paste it into the document at the cursor BELOW the previously entered 4 word description. However, the image pasted to the very top of the document moving my text BELOW the inserted image. I was able to drag the image below the text.

Next I added a couple line returns, entered the brief description for the next image and again attempted to insert the new screenshot image BELOW my new text.

Instead, the new image is back at the top of the document overlaid on top of the first image.

I cannot drag the 2nd image below the second line of text.

This should be a simple paste procedure at the cursor position but it fails!!!

Please fix. Or does a later version address this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Steps to Reproduce:
Type test.
Line Return.
Take screenshot.
Paste into document BELOW aforementioned test.
Now MOVE image to desired position BELOW text.
Enter line returns below image.
Enter new text.
Take a new screenshot.
Now TRY to position new image BELOW new text.

Good luck...

Actual Results:
Second image pastes at top of document no matter where you have the cursor. Unable to drag second image below lowest text.

Expected Results:
The software should paste the image at the current cursor location - NOT at the top of the document.

Reproducible: Always

Thank you for reporting the bug. It seems you're using an old version of LibreOffice. Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.

I downloaded & installed LibreOffice 6.1.0.3 (x64), along with the Help file, onto my HP 8470p Windows 7 laptop with 4GB RAM. I performed the same functions of attempting to paste multiple images in a document. (I want to document Comcast Internet speeds through different servers. I took screen captures after each test showing the speed and server connected to.)

NOTE: All images sources being copied in this report were from MS Paint, cropped, selected & copied then attempted to be pasted directly into LibreOffice Writer.

This is what I have discovered regarding pasting images into LibreOffice Writer:

1.) The first image you paste into a document goes to the top of the first page. You can move it down that page.

2.) The next image you paste in go to the top of the first page. You can move it down that page.

3.) If you make a <Hard Page Break> the next image you paste will go to the top of the page below the <Hard Page Break>. You cam move the image down the first page below the <Hard Page Break>.

4.) If you have several pages with soft breaks and attempt to paste an image the near the bottom of those several pages the image pastes to the top of the page below the lowest <Hard Page Break>.

5.) You can move the recently pasted image down the first page below the <Hard Page Break> but if you attempt to move it to a page below a soft break the image jumps to the bottom of the page below the <Hard Page Break>.

CONCLUSION: It does not seem to be possible to paste in image directly to the cursor location in the current version of LibreOffice Writer.

WORK AROUND: You can use a <Hard Page Break> to paste images onto the page you need it to appear.

CAVEAT: Using <Hard Page Break> to place multiple images on different pages could interfere with edits of the contents of the rest of the document regarding overall page layout.

Planned follow up: Within the next few days I will make sure both my Windows 7 PC & my Windows 10 PC have the latest versions of LibreOffice and perform the same image captures and pastes into Writer. I will update this Bug Report with my findings.

Thank you for your time.

Image is pasted in cursor position.

For the test, could you rename your LibreOffice directory profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) and give it a new try? Thank you
