Description john 2018-09-10 01:04:57 UTC
Description:
While writing an academic paper recently, I found a large three-line-per-page difference in the length of my paper, depending on whether I opened it in 5.4.6.2 (too long -- nearly a full page length difference over the full document) or on 6.0.3.2 (it was exactly meeting the page length limit).

This is very problematic since there are many cases where a strict page limit is imposed. While circulating a document for collaborative input, it is important that users, even on different systems, see the same page length.

I have uploaded an anonymised version of the document. To test, open the same document in different versions and the see difference.

My 5.4.6.2 system is Ubuntu 16.04, with LO from the Ubuntu LibreOffice PPA.
My 6.0.3.2 system is Ubuntu 18.04, with LO installed from Ubuntu repositories.

Perhaps you will need a list of my installed fonts? Not sure how best to provide that.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open file in 5.4.6.2
2. open file in 6.0.3.2
3. compare document length in both versions, note significant difference

Actual Results:
document was nearly a full page longer on 5.4.6.2. The document was originally compiled with 6.0.3.2, where it was nicely within an 8-page limit. The limit appears to be violated on 5.4.6.2.

Expected Results:
page length should be identical for the same document on both systems.

Reproducible: Always

tested under Win7 x64 using LibO 6.0.6.2 and 6.2.0.0.alpha0+ (*)

in my system the document is composed by 9 pages.

I don't have a 5.x version to test but this branch already reached end of life and is no longer supported, so if the bug only affects an old branch it may be closed as WONTFIX.

anyway I'm curious about the different page count among Linux (you reported 8 pages using6.0.3) and Windows (I count 9 using 6.0.6)

did you try to upgrade to 6.0.6?
is the page count different under Linux among 6.0.3 and 6.0.6?

the reported talked about an "8 pages count" using 6.0.3.

I had a "9 pages count" with 6.0.6 and MM had again the same count a 6.2.0 alpha.

it seems there's at least count discrepancy between our count and the reporter's.
Comment 5 Dieter 2018-09-10 12:35:45 UTC
John, you use default page style and a paragraph style, that is inherited from default paragraph style. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I remember some changes in the default page layout or default paragraph style (default page margions or default paragraph spacing). So perhaps it's useful to compare the styles in LO 5.4 and LO 6.0.
Comment 6 Timur 2018-09-10 15:46:19 UTC
Document has TNR fonts. Please see whether Ubuntu 16.04 has this font. If LO doesn't see it and replaced it, it will be written italic in Formatting bar.
Comment 7 MM 2018-09-10 18:57:05 UTC
Windows and ubuntu 16.04 have TNR fonts and showing 9 pages.
Comment 8 tommy27 2018-09-10 20:11:10 UTC
ok, done another test under Win8.1 x64 using LibO 5.4.3 and 6.0.6

the document page count is "9" in both versions.
