Description prcwnl 2018-09-26 12:04:53 UTC
Description:
I'm working with Polish language documents and sometimes in English GB, sometimes with both languages.

Spell checker is suggesting in context mouse menu language for word and for Section but it guises any strange and irrelevant languages but having no idea will show English USA than the languages I have chosen in the options - that is Polish/English-GB. Those should be fist to offer and easy to chose.

The suggestions are often useless or funny (by first hour). It would be better to offer the languages from the settings than offer me guises.

On bottom bar where is language of the text under cursor (as I guess) ther is Polish to chose (as it should be - since it is my GUI lang. and defould document language). UNFORTUNTELY there is no to chose the second one (eng-GB in that casa) nevertheless I have set it as the default Western language!

Eng-BG and eng-USA probably don't create dramatical difference but if I chose to write document in more different languages?

Steps to Reproduce:
Steps to reproduce ;>
1. Set GUI and document default to Polish <Polski>
2. set defoult Western laguage to English (Grat Britain) <English (Wielka Brytania)>
3. Write something with mistakes: part of Text in Polish part in English-GB, one section in Polish second in English-GB, one word in Polish other in English-GB; one text field whole in Polish other text field in English-GB. 4. Try to not get angry ...

Actual Results:
Getting angry ...

Expected Results:
Getting job done.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Win7x64
One week or two deinstaled older version.
Reseted UserProfileSettings.
Reinstalled LOffice with new version.

Not OpenGL problem at all.

IMHO Problem with GUI idea and organization in the context of spell checking and languages support.

From an other bug but useful as test case

How it will work probably depends on language settings GUI and default documents. I have Interface and default documents Polish, default Western documents English-GB.
Comment 3 prcwnl 2018-09-26 13:30:38 UTC
Even between Polish and English there are some similarities - especially in technical language.
If word with mistake will be recognised as one language and there will be recognised wrongly and I would like to change the language:
- in right mouse context menu I see only Word is USA / Section is USA
- in the 'bottom bar' I see language (probably for cursor position) where I'm offered frequently:
  * Polish,
  * No (no spellcheck),
  * Reset default language,
  * More ... <which doesn't help to chose wright language because sends me to the Options - Language settings that are already set in accordance to may preferences - NO Just SIMPLE chose other language <<already installed>> which is not listed in above options>

If I have chosen/installed in the settings other languages - e.g. Chech, German, ... they should be easy available in the both ways.

Under right mouse context menu for the word should aleays be options:
Word -> <subOptions> list of available/instaled/redyForUse languges
Section -> <subOptions> list of available/instaled/RedyForUse languges
Most of the time we have few we operate and the lists will be short.
If You want to offer "suggested guess" place it on the end of the lists not instead of the already set in the options and installed.

In the context menu of bottom bar language field should always be first listed all aviable/set in the options/installed/redyForUse languages.

LO ver. 6.1.2.1 x64 but the same battles with language spell checker

Everything on one screen with my explanations, problems and doubts.
For any interested to solve it ...
Comment 5 prcwnl 2018-10-10 08:26:45 UTC
Version of LO: 6.1.2.1 x64 installed.

Problem with LO deriding my mistakes instead provide mi option to choose one of languages set in the options or option to choose any other language.
It should e possible considering that it is so eager (in mouse context menu) to suggest any "language out of ceiling on the basis of my mistakes" so I think it should be able to give me possibility to choose any other language OF MY OWN CHOICE for any part of the text at any place in any time. But is not like this.

Also:
I don't know how to change language for several sections of the text (in a text field) other way than choose language for EVERY section SEPARATELY.
  I have to do it from mouse context menu because bottom bar language option is NOT CHANGING the sections language to the one I've chosen from the bottom bar tool.
  However mouse context menu offers me to change language ONLY if whole part of the chosen text is one mistake or I place cursor on the word with mistake. Otherwise there is no language choice available for the marked larger portion of text!

P.S. Always should be somewhere option to change language of
Word, Section, Whole text window to one of the languages set as default and auxiliary and should be option to choose other language of my Choice to those "Ranges" of text.

No problem here with Impress, Finnish as GUI lang, en-UK as default Western document lang. Both are shown in the status bar menu.

Dear Reporter,
Could you please try to reproduce it with LibreOffice 6.2.0.2 from
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/GetInvolved#Test_Pre-releases ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

(In reply to Xisco Faulí from comment #7)

Since spring I haven't worked with bilangual (Polish/English) materials. That is way there was no reaction for the last comment #7.

Now I have installed 6.3.0.4 (x64) version.
Is there any sens to downgrade to 6.2.0.2 or do second parralel instalation of the LO?

I have tested the ver. I have on "CMiToS & MKwTK 2018 MBar W0 Organisational metters.odp" It is in English and Polish language document.
I will try to upload the file (or part of it).
My program settings are Polish as basic and English (UK) for documents.

Looking at the second slide, one can test any word underlined as unknon. E.g.: second verse from the bottom of the page/slide 2. - there is word 'teams'.
As I can see at the bottom bar section has been set as Polish.
Under mouse context menu (right button) I can find following language suggestions for the word:
"Word is English (USA)" (that is almost correct - should be English (UK))
and
"Section is Friulski" (that is complitly wrong suggestion, maybe as third option would be of any value).
First is reasonable, second completly without any connection to the document or program settings.

On the bottom bar there is Polish language marked but right-click mouse menu allows to choose ... only Polish or reset to defoult. Why not provide also English there to choose?

Why suggestion provided are not chossen from both languages set in options?

P.S. In few weeks to month time I should work again on bilangual materials.
Maybe will have new experience and something new to report.

Comment 13 prcwnl 2019-08-26 20:59:41 UTC
The problem is of the kind that maks more difficult to manage languages, to find the options (languages) you expect and where it should be easily available for bilangual documents.

Espacially strange is that: both langugases used in document are set in the program options - as it was described in detail in previous posts.
If I would enforce program to check spelling in a document with other languages or use more languages than those two feom settings I could understand the problems with offered language options.

Thanks for Your effors but I still have impression like we do not understand what seems obvious for me (or I'm getting crazy).

It is nice when program can guess language of the text but why suggestions are not being picked from the languages choosen in the program settings first, since document is written using them?
I don't understand it!

You can choose any language by clicking "More". Then in the Font - Language dropdown you can choose the language.

In Tools - Options - Language settings - Languages you can choose a default language for documents. You can set it for the current document only or globally.
