Description zeggolisko 2018-10-04 11:52:18 UTC
Common occurrence:
1. Writer file(s) is open
2. Using other programs for a long time (0,5-1 hour or so, using web browser etc.)
3. When trying to switch active program to Writer, only the title bar and outer frame of the window become visible, content area shows through. The process keeps using some CPU, but neither CPU nor memory are in full or exceptional use.
4. The process has to be killed to open Writer again. Close window can be clicked from the corner or from program bar, but it does nothing. No message of "not responding" or other error message is shown.
5. When opening Writer again, the file recovery dialog comes up. Usually the program then works normally.

Sometimes also:
- The problem may occur after putting laptop to sleep mode while files are open and then resumed, but the problem cannot be reproduced through only this.

Once also:
- The problem occurred continuously: when reopening Writer, the file recovery comes up normally, but when a file (either the recovered or blank new one) is opened, the problem above (3-5) reoccurs instantly without passivity.

The problem came up only after updating from LibreOffice 5.4 to 6.0 (stable releases). The common occurrence has happened 4-5 times in the past few days now, most often with a large file (100+ pages) which I usually work on but also with other, smaller files (3-40 pages).

Small additions:

When Writer has got stuck
- after switching active programs, first the frame of the Writer window is visible, but after some switching nothing is visible anymore
- clicking on the list of Writer windows in the program bar or clicking on the x gives the error sound.

Other programs that I have used while Writer has been inactively open and then stuck:
- maybe every time: OneNote
- not every time: Firefox (with many tabs)

As this is hard for other to replicate, you could also try get a backtrace of the crash https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/How_to_get_a_backtrace_with_WinDbg
Comment 6 zeggolisko 2018-12-04 12:44:51 UTC
I have not been able to reproduce the crash/halt either in safe mode or normal mode, despite making no changes.

A week ago (2018-11-27) I updated to next version and have had no crash after that either.

Current version:

Version: 6.0.7.3 (x64)
Build ID: dc89aa7a9eabfd848af146d5086077aeed2ae4a5

I will try backtracing with WinDbg if the problem reoccurs.
