In the successive crash report screens, "crash report" is sometimes translated "rapport de plantage" sometimes "rapport de crash". "Crash is not a French word and "plantage" should be used. We also find in the French translation "bug" which is not a French word and "bogue" should be used. http://www.culture.fr/franceterme/result?francetermeSearchTerme=bug&francetermeSearchDomaine=0&francetermeSearchSubmit=rechercher&action=search Finally translating the English word report by "rapport" is a calque, a loan translation which should be avoided. The proper French translation to "bug report" is "relevé de bogue". Best regards,
I agree with the fact to harmonize translations but personnaly I'd prefer "rapport de crash". I don't see what's the problem with "Rapport de bug". A language is alive and importing English terms shouldn't be a problem. The word "bug" has a history and most people know this word. Sophie/Jean-Baptiste: thought you might be interested in this one.
Thanks for your feedback. About crash report, it's equal for me, both are understood, only things is to keep consistency. @Jean-Baptiste, up to you to decide :) just let me know if you want me to correct it. For bogue (which comes from Canadian language), we have already discussed it on the list and agreed on bug (in the software and what people want on the wiki) as it's in both Larousse and Robert and used across French speaking countries, just like e-mail, navigateur, and so on. Next time, please come discuss this on the FR QA list, that will save time to QA people :) Closing, we'll fix it in Pootle. Sophie
Fixed in Pootle for 6.1 and master. I changed "crash" to "plantage". I kept "rapport de bug" because I've never seen "relevé de bogue" before and I do not understand what that means. Best regards. JBF
"Bug" is not a French word. Please see http://www.culture.fr/franceterme/result?francetermeSearchTerme=bug&francetermeSearchDomaine=0&francetermeSearchSubmit=rechercher&action=search I fail to see how a localization bug report is being closed when English is still used in the translation. Could you please explain your decision? As for using "rapport" to translate "report", it is a loan translation. The actual meaning in French is different. "Relevé de bogue" is the closest meaning to the English "bug report". Best regards.
Decision has been taken long time ago on the lists with the FR community. If you disagree with it, go and discuss there (after searching the archives please). Jean-Baptiste and me are doing the localization of the product, help, sites and so on since years with the feedback of the whole FR project. I'm closing again the bug, Jean-Baptiste has corrected what needed to be. It will be available in 6.1 and master. Thanks. Sophie
