Description Stephan Schutter 2019-02-09 12:23:31 UTC
Description:
When opening PowerPoint files fonts are often messed up and overlap. Font sizes are not the same as in PowerPoint. This means that you cannot use Libre Office to collaborate with anyone using the Microsoft products unless extremely simple documents are used. This is the case even if the Microsoft fonts are available. This was tested on Ubuntu 18.10 with LibreOffice 6.2 and the default that ship with Ubuntu.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open PPT in Libre
2.Open PPT in Office 365
3. Compare

Actual Results:
Fonts sizing is incorrect and they overlap. Slides are not displayed the same; rendering cooperation impossible.

Expected Results:
Slides should display the same. Users should be able to cooperate with businesses even if they elect to use Libre Office.

Reproducible: Always

here is the actual slide...
Comment 6 Stephan Schutter 2019-05-02 19:53:07 UTC
I cannot force my customers or the rest of the corporation to use another document format, so I must use what is provided... The suggested solution is to simply use Microsoft Office 365 (witch does not run on Linux) software or the online version (witch is limited)...

I cannot really comment on the technical reason for why this does not work properly, only report that it does not.

Though I have, in the last week, discovered a suite that does very well with the Microsoft formats, and uses them by default. This is WPS Office out of China... however I am not sure I trust them... even if it works really well... Perhaps you could look at how the "filter" in and out the Microsoft Document format?

Thank you.

PPTX compared in MSO and LO

PPTX compared in MSO 2016 and LO 6.3+ shows that LO opens this file similar to MSO 2016. Seems that O365 opens it differently.
Comment 8 Timur 2019-05-06 08:58:33 UTC
I set back to Unconfirmed so that someone with O365 confirms this.

Same problem in MSO 2010. To me it's not a bug. Why should we consider it as such if it's not even consistent among different versions of MSO ?
Comment 10 Timur 2019-05-07 14:53:15 UTC
More precisely, let's mark as NotOutBug. This is Microsoft's inconsistency. For the record, WPS opens similar to MSO and LO.

Should MS update Office 2016 to open similar to 365 (now, I have 2016 updated, it's not the case) or if Office 2019 opens similar to 365 (I don't have 2019 to test), please set again Unconfirmed.
