Description devMgr 2019-02-19 11:56:52 UTC
Description:
I am using Bookmarks to identify sections/images within a document. Elsewhere in the same document are (many) hyperlinks referring to these bookmarks. The bookmark name is used by LO as the pop-up hover-help over the hyperlink. As such, the bookmark name needs to be helpful to the user. When the occasion arises that the bookmark must be renamed, at present all of the existing hyperlinks to the old bookmark name are left as orphans.

The suggestion is that the bookmark rename process avoids creation of orphans, at least within the 'host' document - i.e. the one that contains the bookmark.

Actual Results:
Haven't found a slick method for locating broken links, so all orphans have to be manually located.

Expected Results:
When a bookmark is renamed, all references to that bookmark - at least within the same document - should be altered to maintain the logical linkage.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Same behaviour in Writer 6.0.4 (x64)
Comment 2 Greg 2019-03-20 17:07:09 UTC
Agreed!

I to have a document that has multiple links throughout that point to ONE bookmark.

On occasion I have to "Rename" the bookmark . . . and EVERY hyperlink that points at it is broken.

It is a significant pain to find and fix them all.

Correcting this problem would be VERY helpful in situations like this.

Same issue in Linux & Windows OS's, and LO versions 6.1.4 and v6.2.0 (and every one of the versions I've used before these)

Thanks again for your consideration.

As requested, please find attached a document with lots of internal hyperlinks to bookmarks. Any name change of bookmark essentially leaves referring hyperlinks as orphans.

I confirm that behaviour with

Version: 6.3.0.0.alpha0+ (x64)
Build ID: 421e6fc3cd2e6fe37afbef341e2d0ad7b8edde37
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: GL; VCL: win;
TinderBox: Win-x86_64@42, Branch:master, Time: 2019-04-07_01:12:58
Locale: en-US (de_DE); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

I don't know, if this is possible => needsDevAdvice

Additional observation: Same problem if you rename an image, that is target of a hyperlink => I changed bug summary (I hope you agree).

BTW: Why don't you use headings as target of an hyperlink?

the request makes sense... Moving to NEW...
