Wanted to add graphics to a three page letter at the end. All needed to be resized and arranged in three wide columns - perfect alignment not needed. The graphics were "squirrely" to start with, not wanting to stay where I put them. When I got about a dozen on the last two pages, I tried to add captions and change the order and adjust the lineup and they became absolutely obstinate. They would not go where I put them, but would snap back to a previous position. Adding captions started shoving the lower graphics down the page and off to the next one. Then they wouldn't let me drag them back across the page break! It was a mess!! I have worked with Lotus Wordpro and Print Shop and Print Master for many years and those programs always had the attitude that if the human put something there, that is what mattered and there was a solid feel to the operation. Chasing these ornery pictures around the page was a new experience for me and I don't like it!! I had Microsoft Word on and off and never liked to use it for similar behavior! What's your LO version and on which env are you? Just for your information, last stable one is 6.1.5
Also, have to pay attention to the anchoring of the graphic--to page, to paragraph, to character. It makes a big difference.

What do you mean by env? Dave Lea - Who tried to make a computer out of paper clips back in 1966 according to the article in Scientific American!
That's what I mean - it shouldn't! The graphics should follow the cursor, not some invisible anchor point and paragraph! Isn't there a better way to do this? We have a whole page of pictures - no text. Dave Lea - Professional Amateur PS - Any way I can respond to your comments via gmail? I used "reply" and they bounced!

I just tried to download the 6.1.5 version and it wouldn't even start a download. I am using Firefox as my go-to browser. The dialog says: "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\CKHyAWsB.msi.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator." This is a personal laptop computer - there is nobody here but me, so I guess I am the administrator and I say "download away!"
David: please only respond on bugtracker by using this link https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123966# LO is indeed a shortcut for "LibreOffice" About env, I wanted to know if you use Windows, MacOs or Linux. But since you indicate C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\CKHyAWsB.msi.part, I know now you use Windows. About downloading, do you use official website (https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/)? because C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\CKHyAWsB.msi.part means it began to download but it's not finished yet.

It looks as if I was able to get my LO updated. I now have version 6.2.7.1 The problem I mention is still there in the text module, but I have since found and used the "draw" module which is excellent for mixed text and graphics. It does seem a pity that your standard word processor is not better at handling graphics, but there are limits to the things any given program does best! LibreOffice is definitely the very best option I have found! Print Shop, Print Master and Lotus WordPro have been unable to keep up with the shifting sands of Windows and I miss them very much, but you have been able to fill in all that they do and much better than MicroSoft Word ever did do things! I have marked this "Unconfirmed" as you asked. Thanks
David, I read the bug report and the comments. I'm not sure, if you think there is a bug or you want to suggest an improvement or you just need help. In the latter case you should use https://ask.libreoffice.org. In allother cases please attach a sample document, as this makes it easier for us to follow your steps. I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' once the requested document is provided. Pretty much a RTFM issue regards handling anchoring within Writer documents. No possibility for a rational request for improvements when rudiments of the anchoring mechanism is not understood. This is current LibreOffice help entry: https://help.libreoffice.org/6.3/en-US/text/swriter/guide/anchor_object.html?DbPAR=WRITER#bm_id3147828 And here the menu locations have changed a little, but this OpenOffice 'tutorial' is still applicable: https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=86682 Beyond that, this is a Usage issue => NAB
Also well covered in the current Writer guide [1] chapter on 'Images and Graphics' section "Positioning images within the text", pg 238. =-ref-= [1] https://documentation.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/Documentation/en/WG6.0/WG60-WriterGuideLO.pdf
