Description IvanIdea 2019-04-01 16:38:47 UTC
My system:

osx 10.8.5
2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

6.2.2 says it will work with my system, but gave me the no-entry sign when I went to move it into Applications.

Same with 6.1.5

3.7GB available on HDD
and full admin privileges
hashes check out too

Any help you can point me in the right direction?
Is this a known problem

Per release notes [1][2] Apple macOS 10.8 was dropped at 6.0, and through 6.2 builds [3] minimum was a 10.9 macOS build.

At 6.3 the minimum supported macOS will move to 10.10.

The last release with support (deprecated, and Java JRE/JDK issues) for 10.8 osX was the 5.4 builds, still available from project archive.

bump to 10.9 as minimum requirement for OS X on download page is already a Redmine task #2782

Thank you.

BUT

link to archive does not work, archive is down! and has been for several days

AND

have found a copy of 5.4.7 from a mirror site - still no good - when I try to run it an alert pops up:

'You can't use this version of the application "LibreOffice" with this version of OS X.

'you have OS X 10.8.5. The application requires 10.9 or later.'

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.4#Mac says FUTURE releases will require os x 10.9
- so this should work? BUT does not

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.3 has no mention of os x

Cheers

PS macOS = OS X ?

As noted 6.2.2 and 6.1.5 are *not* supported on macOS 10.8.5

Unclear behavior of 5.4.7 on macOS 10.8.5 should be.

@Ivan : you will need to try an even earlier version than 5.4.7.2 - I seem to recall that this was mistakenly built with the then new minimum 10.9 SDK.

Try with a 5.4.6.2 or 5.4.5.1. If they don't work, move back through the versions until you find one that does.

Thank you - and everyone else who works on LibreOffice.

I was quite frustrated that things weren't documented correctly - started looking for problems on my system seeing as I couldn't get what should work to work!

I've also not got much bandwidth - there's a cost every time I do another download, so I was hoping for a definitive answer, but I'll cope, afterall you're all providing superb software at no cost to me.

<quote>5.4.7.2 - I seem to recall that this was mistakenly built with the then new minimum 10.9 SDK.</quote>

If that's so, could I download the code and rebuild it with the 10.8 SDK?

Ta, Ivan

PS have found that I did have 5.1.6.2 on my system before I tried updating, but only have 4.4.7.2 running now - the interface is pretty, but not so easy to use!

Use LibreOffice 5.3.7.2. It should work out of the box -> https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/5.3.7.2/mac/
