Description Robert Simpson 2019-04-14 12:00:45 UTC
Description:
The window which opens for 'format page' and others is wider than the normal view window, overflowing the screen.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.In any Writer or Calc screen, select 'Format-Page', '-Paragraph' or '-Font'
2.

Actual Results:
Format window which opens is a little wider than the full screen (including the Gnome dash), making parts of it inaccessible to the mouse. In full screen mode, the format window cannot be moved. In window mode, it can be shifted to access the hidden areas. (see attachment)

Expected Results:
Format windows should be within the application window.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:

LO 6.2.2.2
Lenovo Lifebook A544 (could be hardware dependent?)

Thank you for reporting the bug.
I think this issue has been already fixed.
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

I downloaded 6.2.2.2 on 12 April 2019, and the problem persists.

Typically when this happens there is one combobox or *something* in one of the pages that is abnormally wide which forces the whole dialog wide and we need to identify which element has to have its width forcibly narrowed from its desired width.

If that's what's happening here then it seems to be happening on another tab page of the dialog shown in the screenshot.

Is this happening in new blank documents ? Or preexisting documents which might have a long style names or long customized color name ? If you click on each tab, is there any page which has a combobox or listbox which has a super long string in it ?
Comment 8 Robert Simpson 2019-04-16 08:43:13 UTC
That's helpful, Caolán. It happens on a new document, when LO is freshly opened. On "Format-Page", "Organiser" tab, the 'Contains' line is very long, but that may be a symptom, not a cause, and it does wrap at the end of the window. Nothing else in Format-paragraph or -character seems out of proportion. Nor can I find any drop-down list with a particularly long entry. The only drop-down boxes that fill the available window width are the top four under Format-Character-Hyperlink, but there is nothing in them.

Sorry for continuing to ask you to try stuff, but could you experiment with version 6.3 as an appimage: https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/
Is the dialog wide with it as well?

You could also try Help - Restart in safe mode and then Continue in safe mode with your normal installation.

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the information.

Thanks, Buovjaga. Problem present neither in appimage, nor safe-mode. (Help not offering 'restart in safe-mode', but started from terminal.)

Not sure how to proceed, so I'm attaching the user profile dumped from safe-mode start window. However 31Mb too big, so I've arbitrarily removed 'backup' and 'uno-packages'.

That is good news.

It sounds like you could rename your user profile directory, which will make LibreOffice generate a new one upon next launch. If you have not done any customisations to the menus, toolbars or keyboard shortcuts, there should not be any loss of data. Extensions also live in the user profile, so if you have any, you could copy the extensions directory back.

Unfortunately, lots of customisations and macros. However, gradually reinstating them, and the problem has not reappeared. I'll keep a close eye and see if some future modification creates the problem.
Thank you very much.
