Description truckeetrout 2019-05-03 23:27:34 UTC
I would like to be able to distribute drawn objects between two snap lines. For example, assume horizontal snap lines at 1" and 5" vertical. Add three small objects (e.g., < 1/2") between them. The enhancement would allow distributing those objects such that there is one at 2", one at 3" and one at 4" vertical.

[Currently, to achieve this effect one must have an object on each snap line, then select all five objects for distribution. Once distributed the objects on each snap line need to be deleted.]

Why don't you adjust snap lines to your purpose? Snap and distribution are unrelated features.

It's a question of productivity. A recent use case: distributing 24 purlins on the top of a pergola. Sure, one could position 24 snap lines, make 23 copies of a purlin object, then position 24 purlins. It would be much easier to position two snap lines, one at each end, snap two purlin objects to those lines, then distribute 22 purlins between those two. [It has been possible to do this in Visio for at least twenty years.] A nice feature; that it does not exist does not make it a bug.

In LibreOffice you position the left object and the right object, then mark all 24 objects together and distribute them. I do not understand what you are missing.

The difference between my suggestion and the method in your comment is whether the objects being distributed exist at the snap lines defining the distribution boundaries. In my suggestion there are no objects at the snap lines - distribution is between them. To achieve the same result with your method the objects at the snap lines must be deleted after distribution. A minor but real difference.

So while the proposal has a small improvement to productivity there are easy solutions by design. Let's keep the ticket open if someone wants to implement this.
