Description Cathy Crumbley 2019-05-28 02:37:52 UTC
versions 6.1.6.3 and 6.2.4.2

To replicate:
1. Select rows or columns
2. Go to the drop-down list of the row or column icon in the standard toolbar.
3. Select hide rows/columns
4. Select rows/columns on both sides of the hidden rows/columns
5. Change the height or width of the selected rows or columns

Expected:
The hidden rows/columns continue to be hidden and should remain hidden until they are intentionally made visible.

What happens instead:
The hidden rows/columns are no longer hidden

As I know it is not a bug, it works so from ever. It's possible hide rows and column with Menu/Data/Group&Outline/Group

This is indeed a bug, even if a longstanding one. From bug reporting guidance on the ODF Wiki: "Confirm that it really is a bug. [...] This includes the software [...] doing what you never asked it to do [...]." This behavior is not documented at the help page for row and column resizing either.

No practical workaround has been offered. A reasonable workflow in Calc is the following:
1. Hide multiple column ranges that are needed for calculations but not interesting to see.
2. Click the top-right left corner to select all cells and change the column width.
2a. This changes the width of all columns, as expected.
2b. This automatically shows all hidden columns although I never asked for this.
3. The column ranges which used to be hidden are still uninteresting, so I have to hide them again one-by-one. This takes a lot of time.

Step 2b shouldn't happen and step 3 shouldn't be necessary!

The link offered by m_a_riosv is not helpful either: 1. The described bug affects groups of rows or columns too. 2. Multiple column ranges cannot be put into one group.

I confirm the bug.

1. Open my demo file and select columns C and D and hide.
2. Select columns B to E and resize those.

Result: C and D became again visible, but not needed to be like that. We just wanted to resize, not show anything.
