Description: Text selection was not working- by mouse or keyboard-shift and arrows, until finally(due to writing to report this bug) I went to the Edit menu and toggled the Selection mode from Standard to Block and then back again (to Standard). I'd never used this setting. The problem had been ongoing since the last update via Debian Stretch- software update. Version: 5.2.7.2 Build ID: 1:5.2.7-1+deb9u7 Steps to Reproduce: 1.position cursor with mouse in front of text and move to highlight 2.alternately position cursor with mouse and use shift and arrow keys to highligh 3.multiple clicking did not work either- resorted to backspacing to delete the words I didn't want. Actual Results: See steps to reproduce and letter. Nothing would highlight at all as if no text was selected. Word or sentences. While writing this, I went to see if there was a method to select all and noticed Selection Mode- and I toggled this to Block. That had an effect but didn't really work and when I put it back to Standard, the selection now works. This would mean that the problem is resolved, except I have never used that toggle before so something about the default setting of the selection mode is faulty. Expected Results: expected text to be selected and indicated by a highlight by using the mouse or the keyboard, using the methods usually used. I had never noticed or used nor did anyone else- the Selection Mode tool....it was set at Standard, I changed it to Block, that didn't do anything helpful, then set it back to Standard and the problem resolved. This was a problem since the last software update last week. My guess is the default mode is screwed up since after the button was reselected there is no more selection-text highlight problem. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: [Information automatically included from LibreOffice] Locale: en-US Module: TextDocument [Information guessed from browser] OS: Linux (All) OS is 64bit: yes
