While those are (mostly) Chinese characters, they don't form any meaningful words or sentences. So I suspect it's not a message intended for the user, but rather some binary data that got wrongly interpreted.

Thanks for the answer.

I discovered that this message occurs only when I install the extension the first time. If the extension is already installed, there is no message.

Could you please attach the extension?
OTOH, is it still happening in LibreOffice 6.3 or LibreOffice 6.4 ?

Linguist (extension)

Here is an extension. But the bug also happens with another extension, like Grammalecte.
The message is then different but “similar”: a lot of chinese characters with random other characters.

The screenshot as shown in attachment 152389 [details] is not Chinese characters at all. It is "garbage characters / messy code". It is very likely binary data, as suggested by Ming Hua.

It works OK if I install this extension with libreoffice GUI.

If I install the extension on Fedora 31, with:
/opt/libreofficedev6.3/program/unopkg add -f ./linguist-1-5-1.oxt
Then it is installed correctly.

Olivier: I guess you are using Windows operating system?

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.
Comment 9 Olivier R. 2020-05-08 20:24:25 UTC
Yes, it still occurs on LO 6.4.
Yes, I’m using Windows 10.

The message occurs only at first installation. If you don’t remove the extension you installed at first via the GUI, it won’t happen.
Comment 10 Julian Kalinowski 2020-06-05 05:57:11 UTC
Confirmed for LO 6.4.3 on Windows 10. Weird characters on first installation, no message on subsequent installation attempts.
unopkg --help however does output meaningful text.
Comment 11 Xisco Faulí 2021-11-23 10:43:57 UTC
Hello Olivier,
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
