Description Adalbert Hanßen 2019-08-14 17:00:12 UTC
Description:
This bug report pertains to
Version: 6.4.0.0.alpha0+
Build-ID: 9ee5ad5a0b84bfa652da34694ba4f75668f06087
CPU-Threads: 4; BS: Linux 4.4; UI-Render: Standard; VCL: gtk3;
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2019-07-30_13:21:44
Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI-Sprache: de-DE
Calc: threaded
running on Xubuntu 16.04.

LO Writer used to show a progress bar close to the lower border of its window. This progress bar is very useful if you deal with larger files.

This bug is not present in
Version: 6.1.6.3
Build ID: 5896ab1714085361c45cf540f76f60673dd96a72
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk2;
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); Calc: group threaded
This one shows the progress bar.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a big LO Writer file (I observed it with a 25 MB file with ca 900 pages, ca 210000 words according to LO Writer, which takes some time to store).

2. Make some change to the file.

3. Store it and observe the progress bar at the bottom of the window.

Actual Results:
In step 3: The sub-window for the meter shows up, but the (horizontal) thermometer in it is missing. Storing takes > 5 seconds on my computer for the big file which lead to my observation.

Expected Results:
A thermometer-like bar growing from left to right as it was in Version: 6.1.6.3.

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Adalbert Hanßen 2019-08-23 21:43:43 UTC
I just noticed that in version

Version: 6.4.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 2bed8af91fc2654b9ed2432f969d32d5741a529b
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2019-08-21_09:30:10
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

the progress par is working again (despite VCL: gtk3).

(There were some more comments attached to this bug report, blaming the bug on my xfce4 using gtk2. The comments also provided a hint how to force LibreOffice Writer to use gtk2 instead, but added a warning that gtk2 support will soon be removed from master. I tried to use the trick provided to modify my xfce4-starter for LO Writer, but that did not work for me. Finally after installing the 2019-08-21 version mentioned above - I saw that LO WriterDev in this version shows the progress bar again and I was happy about that. - But all the other comments to this post, where are they gone?)
