Please write version that you have and new one, with links.
Please explain if you are behind proxy.

Having recently changed my computer, I'm afraid that I can't report what version I had on the old one.

I am not behind a proxy.

I have not yet attempted to install MRI on the new computer. However, I note that the latest version of MRI on the Extensions site is 1.1.4 (https://extensions.libreoffice.org/extensions/mri-uno-object-inspection-tool).

The update installation which failed was version 1.3.4. Is it possible that a version which has not been released has accidentally triggered an 'update available' message?

I have no idea about that extension.
What I see is https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/mri-uno-object-inspection-tool with version 1.3.3.
Please install LO version or contact author to check why the newer one is not on LO extension site.
Until then, I close as NotOurBug.
If you have some new info, fell free to set Unconfirmed.
