This report is a follow-up of bug 118719. Only one issue of bug 118719 has been solved there. In order to reproduce the bug: [1] Create new text document. [2] Format pages with 2 columns: Format > Page… > Columns > … [3] Insert a bit of text. [4] Insert manual column break: Insert > More Breaks > Insert Column Break [5] Insert a bit of text in second column [6] Insert another column break. [7] Hide whitespace with menu: View > Hide Whitespace. Now the working area of Page 1 is completely displayed. Top and bottom areas are not displayed. Expected: Only first line of page 1 should be displayed. This would be equivalent, if you use page breaks. The function Hide Whitespace was introduced in version 5.1.0. This bug also exists since this version.
I copnfirm the behaviour with Version: 6.4.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) Build ID: 3e64065612acec2eb29aa21e2b515953422256d7 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: GL; VCL: win; TinderBox: Win-x86_64@62-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2019-08-15_22:57:26 Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI-Language: en-US Calc: threaded

Dear Harald Koester, To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! Warm Regards, QA Team MassPing-UntouchedBug
Still same behaviour in Version: 7.6.4.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: e19e193f88cd6c0525a17fb7a176ed8e6a3e2aa1 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL threaded but I'm not sure anymore, that it is a bug Area of the column is displayed althoug most of the column is empty (same with empty table with a height of 20 cm) So from now i would say NAB, but let's hear optinion from the design-team.
Please add an example document.

(In reply to Harald Koester from comment #0) > [7] Hide whitespace.... Top and bottom areas are not displayed. > Expected: Only first line of page 1 should be displayed. The layout fits well IMO when you switch to one column.

No, as far as I understand original report expectation is, that "whitespace" below the written text is not displayed (although it is part of the columns). for me actual behaviour is the expected behaviour.
Created attachment 191755 [details] Screenshot If the next page contains text you get a lot white space with columns. I agree with the issue.
