This is a Impress enhancement request to allow users to "ungroup" (Ctrl+Shift+G) imported vector graphics objects into their corresponding Impress shapes (e.g., lines in the vector graphics figure should be converted to impress lines with the appropriate color and stroke). This feature exists for EPS files in MS Powerpoint. Use case: I typically use Impress/Powerpoint for academic presentations. Typically, these presentations involve building slides using already create figures (EPS files). To build these slides, I typically want animate individual portions of the imported figures (e.g., animate the x-axis on a graph followed by a separate animation for the y-axis). In Powerpoint, I ungroup the complete vector graphics image and then re-group smaller portions of the lines and shapes into components that I want to animate individually. The alternative is to build multiple EPS files and import each separately. Which takes a lot of time.
This is would be against both Draw and Impress as they share common source in the sd module. And, in fact this feature is already provided with the 'Break' command for supported vector graphics (SVG, WMF, EMF); a keyboard or menu customization beyond its location on context menu can already be made. => INVALID EPS is not going to work well as it is not natively supported, LO will filter import the preview bitmap but support of its vector PS elements is dependent on third party helper apps--not well implemented cross platform and dependent on user action to install and configure. bug 67474 for native EPS vector handling would need attention.
And, lest folks think we are ignoring an interoperability feature--MS Office has removed its support for EPS (which had been provided with an import filter conversion to EMF). This MS Office support blog is germane: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/support-for-eps-images-has-been-turned-off-in-office-a069d664-4bcf-415e-a1b5-cbb0c334a840 So, for working with EPS, MSO alos requires external conversion to suitable format.
